Put the pipe down. Why not trade Kane for Miller while we are at it too?

Toews for lecavalier?

Trade#1.

To Boston: Bolland ($3.375M x 2), Hjalmarsson ($3.5M x 2), Bickell ($541K x 1), Crawford ($2.66M x 2) Total Cap Hit = $10.08M

To Chicago: Krejci ($5.25M x 3), McQuaid ($1.56M x 3), Thomas ($5.0M x 1) Total Cap Hit = $11.81M

Why Boston makes this trade? They get $1.75M cap relief. They unload Thomas for Rask to take over with Crawford as his backup. Krejci leaving means they can move Seguin into his natural top-6 center position. Bolland takes over shutdown center role that UFA Chris Kelly played. Bickell provides cheap replacement for bottom-6 free agent losses.

Why Chicago makes this trade? Krejci is the long sought after #2 center, plus he's good at faceoffs. McQuaid is the big d-man the Hawks need plus he's a right handed shot. Thomas provides an upgrade in goaltending for at least next season.

Trade #2.

To Ottawa: Frolik ($2.33M x 2), McNeill ($1.175M ELC), Draft pick to offset Frolik salary dump.

To Chicago: Either one of these two ELC goalies: Ben Bishop or Robin Lehner

Why Ottawa makes this trade? They get McNeill. Frolik is serviceable and his salary is manageable because Ottawa has plenty of cap space. They get a draft pick for taking on Frolik's 2 year salary comittment.

Why Chicago makes this trade? They get goalie of the future.

Free Agent signings:

1. Chris Kelly. 3rd line center who is good at faceoffs and scored 20 goals last season.

2. Sheldon Souray. Big d-man with big point shot for the power play.

3. Resign Brandon Bollig to handle energy tough guy duties.

Sharp for Krecji, Campbell addresses two needs and gives us about 5-6 less goals than before.

One of Penner/Clowe would be great to strengthen our team and help the PP.

Signing a physical D like Jackman would solidify the D corps from 3-6, much better than Oduya, Lepisto and Olsen.

Saad-Toews-Kane
Shaw-Krecji-Hossa
Stalberg-Bolland-Penner
Hayes-Campbell-Kruger

Olsen/Keith
Seabrook/Jackman
Hammer/Monty

stop it with Sharp. Bowman has no intention to trade him.

Really, do you guys know your team and the people that are running it?

I really don't get the Dustin Penner love. Did we not just spend three quarters of the season hating Bryan Bickell? At least his cap hit is under a million.

Penner is twice as lazy, and 4 times as overpaid

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that it is his contract year.

Last time he signed a big contract, he showed up to camp that year 30lbs overweight.

Bryan Bickell had 7 more points in the regular season. Sure Penner missed sometime because he threw his back out eating pancakes, but he's not worth it.

Those in favor are saying a one year deal in the 1-2M dollar range. Nothing more. Will he sign that? Probably not, but that is the level of interest I've posted and read from others. Nobody has said sign him beyond 2M or beyond 1 year. That way, if he plays like a slug, you scratch him or even waive him.

so it's just a waste of Cap Space and money then? Rocky has already shown that he won't spend to the cap if he has big money rotting in the minors/overseas.

I'd be more in favor of giving Olesz a shot over Dustin Penner

You sure seem confident that Penner will be a waste, based upon... one bad year? Only player Rocky is still paying is Olesz and that's not THAT much money.

Olesz does not bring the same style of hockey that Penner does. People want Penner because he is a big body and can go to the net. We want him to play with Toews and Kane so he can use his size to create space for the other two.

If they can teach stalberg to play more positionally sound defense I kinda like this.

Though, I'm really not a big fan of Krecji

Thomas would be #1

And at end of day the Bruins aren't trading Kelly/Krecji for scraps

more like one good year lol.

and Olesz made 3.4 mil last year. 4 mil next year.

That's not a lot of money? For a Wirtz?

and you know who else was a player who went to the net? Andrew Brunette. How did that work? Penner has the same amount of foot speed.

One i liked from the trade boards

Morin, Jayes, and a 1st for Plekanec

Instantly solves the #2C issue with no loss to our current roster.

Are you proposing that Emery becomes our main goalie and Thomas is the backup?

Chris Kelly is UFA.

They may not want to trade Krejci - but I theorize he may be available because Seguin is a natural center who should be ready to take one of the top-6 center positions - with Bergevin the other top-6 center.

Further - with Kelly and 2 or 3 other forwards UFAs this offseason - Bolland would be a nice fit to take over the shutdown line center role. I added Bickell into the trade because he would be an attractive (cheap) bottom-6 guy to replace one of the other leaving free agents.

Further#2 - With Rask RFA this offseason and obviously their #1 goalie of the future - he's going to get a big raise - hence Boston might be very receptive to offloading Thomas' $5M contract (not to mention his political faux pas last summer probably embarassed team ownership). Crawford would give them a solid #2 goalie with a managable contract - in both cap hit ($2.3 - less than half of Thomas cap hit) and length (only 2 more years)

Further#3 - Boston would gain about $1.7M in cap space.

The trade:

To Boston: Bolland, Hjalmarsson, Bickell, Crawford
To Chicago: Krejci, McQuaid, Thomas

Sign UFA Chris Kelly.

The face of our franchise is Toews.
Keith is our #1 defenseman.
Prospects mean as about as much in the NHL as in the MLB, in other words, a crapshoot.

Hawks 1st round picks since 2000:
2000-Yakubov, Varobiev
2001-Ruutu, Monro
2002-Babchuk
2003-Seabrook
2004-Barker
2005-Skille
2006-Toews (3rd overall)
2007-Kane (1st overall)
2008-Beach
2009-Olsen
2010-Kayes
2011-McNeill, Danault

12 years produces Seabrook, Toews, Kane. 2 of those 3 were top 3 picks. The Hawks will never see the top 10 again, let alone the top 3.

So, what's your point?
Using past draft history since 2000 when the current brass has only been here for the last two years is pretty ludicrous if you're looking to prove a point...

Other NHL teams aren't trading their elite players unless you want to give up one of Chicago's elite players.
Or, of course, unless one stupidly stockpiles three or four first round picks as well as two great prospects and tosses them haphazardly into a silly hypothetical deal that manifests its creator as someone who is clueless about the league.

So 2 guys that haven't proved squat at the NHL level and a late 1st round pick for Plekanec, a guy with 50+ points the last 4 years and 20+ goals 5 of the last 6 years.

Sounds fair for the Blackhawks...
