For the most part, college allows you to have 4 years to evaluate a players progression before you have to sign them. Later rounds that is a huge asset.

For the most part, because they're good hockey players?

Leblanc is projected to be a 2nd line winger, at worst a 3rd line player.
McDonagh is a stud #1 defenseman who played almost an entire game within a 3 OT play-off game (which his team won).
Fischer was a bust.
Pacioretty is a top line power forward winger who just came off a 30+ goal campaign.
Higgins was a 20+ goal scorer for us. Is now a top 3rd line player on the Presidents Trophy Canucks.
Kristo is a co-owner of the top offensive prospect for the Habs with Gallagher.
Tinordi is in the CHL now. Projected to be a tough, mean SOB on the back end.
Quailer is one of our better forward prospects with a good frame and offensive skills.
Conboy could become a 4th line grinder who can drop the mitts.

Actually, McDonagh, Higgins & Fischer didn't even play in the USHL, Kristo went AFTER we drafted him.

They do draft players from CHL too. Of the players listed only Quailer (later rounds), Conboy (later round) and Fischer (bust on a terrible draft year (yes yes, Giroux I know)) likely won't be NHL regulars. Some of them (Pacioretty, McDonagh) are already stars and most will be solid players.

I don't know why you are complaining (IF you are complaining of course)

Emelin
Trunev
Nathan Beaulieu
Darren Dietz
Morgan Ellis
Markov
Avtsyn
Valentenko

The Montreal Canadiens are America's team.

U-S-A!
U-S-A!

Well, we have to compete with the Maple Leafs for the title.

McDonagh and Fisher were not USHL.

They do draft CHL players, maybe you heard of Subban, Price, Weber, Beaulieu, Gallagher etc

The adavantage of darfting USHL players is they mostly go NCAA allowing the team more than 2 years to decide if they want to sign that player and have him play pro.

You are confusing the USHS with the USHL. Higgins, McDonagh, Fischer played in the USHS only not the USHL.

Here's the list of players that we drafted that spent time in the USHL,

Louis Leblanc- '09
Mike Cichy- '09
Patrick Johnson- '09
Ryan McDonagh- '08
Andrew Conboy- '07
Mike Komisarek- '01
Ron Hainsey- '00

here's the list of players that we drafted that spent time in the USHS,

Colin Sullivan- '11
Joe Stejskal- '07
David Fischer- '06
Philippe Paquet- '05
J.T. Wyman- '04
Chris Higgins- '02

Here's the list of players that we drafted that spent time in the USHL and USHS,

Josiah Didier - '11
Jarred Tinordi- '10 (also played in the NAHL- another junior league like the USHL)
Mac Bennett- '09
Danny Kristo- '08
Max Pacioretty- '07
Scott Kishel- '07

As for why teams are drafting out of the USHL more now, it's due to the NCAA rule change in '05 where they started to allow kids to be drafted into the NHL before going to the NCAA without losing their eligibilty. So before then, you couldn't draft a kid out of the USHL, USHS, NAHL, BCHL, etc... if they planned on going the NCAA route.

I refuse to believe you're serious. Besides, some of those players look pretty good.

Because they don't have to sign them for a long, long period of time.

+ their American based scouts are better sellers !

We often drafted between 10th and 25th spot in the first round and USHL often hides underestimated draft picks because of lesser game played, less visibility than CHL players.

At least the clamor for Québedois isn't so insistent now. A full time Québec scout might have plugged Giroux very hard but we can't even be sure of that. Outstanding francophone players eligible for the 2012 draft don't readily come to mind, although a few who are drafted later on may surprise everyone (just as players from other ethnic backgrounds often do).

As I've said before, the new GM should seriously consider trading the #3 pick because this draft isn't spiked with future superstars and even the Oilers won't have the opportunity to choose between an Ovechkin or a Malkin as their selection. By draft day Bergevin should know a great deal more about the intentions of other GMs and well as of the recommendations of the Habs' scouting staff.
