Yep.

Only 4 countries have representatives:

Sweden (9)
Canada (8, 1 coach)
Russia (6)
Czech Republic (2)

And it'll stay that way for a long while.

Getzlaf has a chance to be the first player to win a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold, World Championship, World Junior Championship & World U-18 Championship

Wow, that would be very impressive. I hope he does it.

I can now, maybe, see why Getzlaf is so damn lazy on the ice these days.

I'm sure Kopitar curses his parents for giving birth to him in the wrong country.

Then there's also Corey Perry who has a WJC, Memorial Cup, Olympic Gold and Stanley Cup. Any idea why he wasn't on the U18 team with Getzlaf?

Who does that, definitely deserves to be in TGC

edit: didn't mean to say winning SC or OG is easy. just that winning WC is not only tough on the ice, but off the ice also.
Part of the reason WC is also hard to get is you also for the most part have to be on a bad team--although some players who lost in the 1st round get added to WC teams, usually only a couple do. But if you're on a SC winner, chances are your team isn't bad enough for you to be available for the WC. And then you still have to win the WC.

yeah that sucks. but I think everybody has at least a couple of chances to try during his career. and it's not like not being in TGC makes anybody worse or less successful player. It's what it is, nobody's making big deal out of this club, it's more of an interesting fact than a big achievement to get there.

Getting in the TGC is almost a quirk ... anyone who played before the 90s never had a chance, and even after that, you have legends like Lemieux, Selanne, and Hasek who all missed out on one prize. And then there's Slegr, who was lucky enough to get traded to one of the most stacked teams in modern history, played a grand total of one game all playoffs with them, and got his Cup to get in the TGC.

I don't think it will be that long before USA, Slovakia, or Finland gets a member. I mean, it will probably be a while because of the gap between Olympics, but it's very possible in the next 12 years.

bump. According to my research these players would get into TGC if they win Olympic gold now:

CZE
Tomáš Kaberle
Michal Rozsíval

RUS
Pavel Datsyuk
Yevgeni Malkin

SVK
Michal Handzuš

SWE
Johan Franzén

No CAN? At least one reason to hope for a gold for them.

Scott Niedermayer won : IIHF senior Gold, IIHF U20 Gold, World Cup, Olympic twice, and U18 was played back then as "european championship" AFAIK so he didn't have a chance to compete for it. Still impressive

Add to that list 4 Stanley Cups and a Memorial Cup. NOW that resume looks really impressive! And the Mem Cup might just be the hardest to win with 60 teams currently competing for it.

Kunitz has only 1/3. Silver medal in WC. Olympic Gold would make it 2/3.

Doughty needs WC too.

Quite a few need the WC.
