Nick Lidstrom's retirement

He will go down as one of the greatest defenseman of all time, and for my money greatest of our generation and second best all time to Bobby Orr. What's the most amazing thing about him though? He's a greater human being off the ice than even on it. In a game with cheap shots and disrespect at times among players, he's the ultimate symbol or respect for both his fellow players and the game. The NHL lost a great ambassador on the ice for the game today, good luck Nick in his future endevors!

Sportsfan, you should tell people who your second favorite team is. It'll come out one way or the other.

So long as people understand it's SECOND, Detroit hands down. Will forever have some of my favorite players Yzerman, Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg.

Might want to put a helmet on.

Meh...

Just take a look at the advantages you get in becoming sponsor.

I've been actually considering it for a while.

Do they accept bank transfers?

So, in the light of LA's cup win I was looking at their cap situation. I thought Boston's situation after last year's win was ridiculous. This is just beyond that. They have one relevant RFA in Dwight King and 4 UFAs in Penner, Stoll, Parse, and Fraser. They're currently sitting under the salary floor with 20 players (11F, 7D, 2G) under contract. I imagine Penner's gone after the hell he went through this year. Could they convince Stoll to stay as their 3C? Re-sign King and Stoll and they could be set and still over $10MM under the cap with the only turnover being Penner (7G 10A in 65 games) and some 4th line players.

Is he going to pull a Hossa? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

Soooo... Apparently there's a mainboard thread saying that the deadline has passed for New Jersey to confirm giving up their 1st round selection this year (as per the Kovalchuk penalty). Is this true? If so, why would they choose this year? I don't understand.

Because this is almost the absolute lowest their draft pick could be in the first round. They'll be picking 29th, I'd rather give that up then the likelihood they will finish lower than that (winning the Stanley Cup).

It's true. They won't give up their first this year.

They are probably hoping things will change with the new CBA I assume.

Chances are higher they'll finish <29th next year, though. One would think making it to the finals would pretty much guarantee that they forfeit their pick.

What would change under the new CBA? Like they wouldn't have to forfeit any picks?

I miss understood your question. I thought you were asking why they would give up this year's pick.
