All Purpose Spezza Discussion

Lots of fans are once again coming out of the woodwork saying we should consider trading Spezza. Yep, let's get rid of one of the Top 3 centers in the league when he is in his prime. People on the Red Scarf Union facebook page who I haven't seen participate in a discussion all season are now coming in, posting their "expert" opinions on the subject. I'm seeing people complaining that he just wanted the series to be over so he could get back to his wife and kid. Give me a freaking break.

Even though he put the team on his back(with Andy) and won game 5 for us, he apparently "sucks" now. I'm tired of this running meme in our fanbase. If Spezza lead the league in points there would still be a vocal group of our fans whining and complaining about how he's not good enough. He led our team in playoff points this season but we are still hearing about how he choked during this series. We ran into a highly defensive team and the best goaltender in the league right now. Stop looking for a scapegoat and be happy with the performance of our boys.

I know some of you will disagree with me so let's get some discussion going about whether we should trade him, keep him, your reasons why and what you'd think we could get for him in a trade.

I'll give Spaz the benefit of the doubt, he's given me no reason not to. He left somewhat of a bitter taste this series, but meh. We don't even make it here without him. He certainly didn't look himself though. As for trading him.. yeah, not touching that one. Not even worth the time.

He's not a top 3 center year in and year out. Him getting hated on will always come with the territory because of how he plays. He thinks the game at such a high level and sometimes he is guilty of trying to do too much. Some people are wired like that and pile pressure on themselves. Like him or hate him, we are a much better team with him.

Get him some legit linemate's and he'll be fine. Can only create so much offence playing with Greening et al.

Obviously, most fans don't actually understand the sport at all in terms of management.

Fans who want him gone, aren't real fans at all.

I can agree with fans who would want him gone only if the return was a guaranteed C who's better than Spez (ie a Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos).

However, it's simply unrealistic and stupid to trade a #1C for lesser parts right now. It'd be a major step back in our rebuild.

The same Spezza who is near PPG in the playoffs and finished in the Top 5 in league scoring?

Naw, it couldn't be. Must be Matthew.

Get rid of him. Way overrated.

Anyone who'd trade him is an idiot.

I'd trade him to Edmonton for their 1st Overall Pick.

Then we'll finally have a winger for Spezza.

I wanna see how he does this coming season with someone like Silfverberg or Stone on his wing. I think either one of those 2 players can provide a little playmaking, and do more with the puck than shoot it in or take the shot and that's it.

Spezza is not going anywhere.

He had 5 point in 7 games in a series in which he was very effectively shutdown. He wasn't at his best but he still managed to produce despite it all.

Hilarious. Back to picking on Spezza. Trading Spezza would turn this team in the wrong direction. Is an elite centre in the NHL who Bryan Murray wishes to build the team around. If Ottawa had a Marian Gaborik, Spezza would be pretty close to being a top contender in points in the league, like he was when Alfie was cooking and had Heatley on his left side.

Aside from all of that Spezza was a big reason the Sens were in the playoffs to begin with. Those fans wanting a Spezza trade are bitter and think of today and not an even better tomorrow.

He will be captain of this team.

Seriously if anyone is thinking of trading Spezza away, they aren't thinking at all.

Saying Spezza is a top 3 center man in the NHL is kind of laughable. I don't think I would even put him in the top 10.

He is a flake, who plays only when he wants to. Shows up 1 game and then disappears. Hard to be a fan favorite like that.

Maybe he should look in the mirror and wake up.

He was top 5 this year quite easily. Top 10 guy when other guys are healthy and performing.

Name me 10 Centers as valuable as Jason Spezza over a full games season. Good luck and god speed.

You're definitely confusing Spezza with Kovalev.

I'd take just about every teams #1 center ahead of Spezza.
