FWIW, starting next Sunday is the Tour of California. (Will have LIVE coverage on NBCSN just before the evening's playoff hockey.) Preview on NBCSN Saturday 12:30pm. Live from 2-4pm on NBCSN (the end of the stage with highlights from earlier portions).

And once you get into it, you can see the TEAM aspect (star, sprinter, domestique, etc.), start to get into the history (and politics) and more.
I've been watching cycling for about 10 years now, I kind of stoped watching when Alberto Contador starting winning everything though. Todays race was awesome however.

Regarding the Tour of California, I thought they typically did that in Febuary? Did they change the dates this year?

IIRC starting in 2010 they moved to May (primarily for better weather). They've gone down to San Bernardino mountains for their "mountain top" finishes (Big Bear in 2010, Mt Baldy 2011).

And an amazing # of top cyclists (think GC contenders for Tour de France) participate in the race (rather than the three week Giro) as a prep for their July aspirations.

Levi Lepheimer has been on the shelf after injury (and is unlikely to ride the TOC). Chris Horner will participate, trying to defend his title.

And lots of Europeans whose name you've heard called participate too.

Link for rosters. 16 teams (international and some domestic).

Thanks for the info, I'll be keeping an eye on it if I'm not too busy with other things.

Actually looks like NBCSN is having a TOC preview RIGHT NOW (starting about 20 minutes late).

And it looks like Levi will be in lineup from teaser preview.

(Rosters -- actual riders -- should be announcing soon.)

Just noticed the new thread (I've been busy, ok) and I'm glad there is no boycotting in the title. I went to see Avengers last night and really enjoyed it but I think what I enjoyed more was just wanting to go out on Saturday night for Cinco De Mayo and my friend was available. I'm so used to going to the theaters in the morning for the matinee showing and the theater is like half full. Last night was a sold out showing and the energy of the crowd was just really fun, especially for a movie like that. Added a lot more to the experience.

Can't believe we're already in May. Where has this year gone. Less than two months from now will be my Birthday and it just won't feel like a full year has gone by.

Does anyone else find it annoying when the audience applauds in a movie theatre?

Yah, its pretty funny.

Though when I saw Jurassic Park i saw it 2 days before it came out with the staff of Silicon Graphics. We cheered at the end, and that was obviously appropriate

I think it depends upon the movie...when I saw Miracle in theaters people cheered. It was like they were watching the game. Same with Moneyball...

if you're cheering when James Bond kills the bad guy...well...then it's not really as appropriate....

I'm not too fond of clapping after the last lecture of the semester either.

I don't really understand it. Who are you applauding? The actors who are hundreds of miles away? The Movie Theater staff for making sure the film works and the custodians who clean up the place? I can understand if it's a premiere event and people who worked on the movie are actually there in attendance (Not to mention probably having a Q&A afterwards) but if that's not the case, why applaud?

Sometimes you just get a really good buttery piece of popcorn that's worth applauding.

I've actually heard people applaud at the drive-in before, it was sad...

Well, I don't applaud the people who serve me the pop corn because I always tell them to go light on the butter and it always look like they are putting too much on. That's why I like places like AMC 20 near Great America where you put your own butter on the pop corn if you want it.

Retailer Brookstone this year will start selling a portable fuel cell able to charge smartphones a dozen times before running out.

Fuel cell maker Lilliputian Systems today announced that Brookstone will be the first retailer to carry its portable USB power source, which will be sold under Brookstone's brand. The fuel cell device is about the size of a thick smartphone, and the lighter fluid-filled cartridges are about the same size as a cigarette lighter.
First gadget I've really wanted in a long while. I love the future

Final year end critique over and done with. Went great, always a harrowing experience having your work picked apart by your entire department, all your professors, and visiting artists, but people seemed to really dig my work. Now I can finally relax after weeks of going non stop.

Also, earlier in the week the book I made won me a cash prize and was collected by the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center. Which is nice.

I will second this statement. I did not grow up reading comic books and have little interest in them. But this movie was all around fun. Lots of action and pretty good from a comedy standpoint.
