First of all, you don't plan ahead with the assumption you'll have a top-10 pick in 2 years. Not on this team. And a good prospect now, with 2 years of seasoning under his belt, will be a better asset than, say a #20 pick in 2014.

Lou has said things like "Zach is a Devil" and Zach himself has talked with insuations that he would be here. I'm not getting my hopes up but I sort of think the groundwork was being laid last year when they signed the 1 year deal because they were running out of time before arbitration. The framework likely is already there. I'm just not sure that Zach is intent on signing a long term deal, perhaps prefering to have this option if the team does not remain competitive. Maybe something like a 3 year, 22 million dollar deal.

There`s no safe bet in our system. Doesn`t seem like Kinkaid/Clermont`s gonna take the spot. Wedge is close though. Again, it`s just a speculation.

I'm baffled by the fact they aren't forfeiting it this year. Unless there are two reasons.

First reason they plan on using it to make a trade.

Second reason they are scouting someone that they REALLY want.

If it's not those two I hope to god we don't end up with a bust like Tedenby, Bergfors, or Corrente, and other first round picks.

Lou has to be keeping it so he can trade it. There's no way that keeping the 29th pick is worthwhile otherwise.

Lou realizes next year is Marty's last shot. Instead of using the pick, I think he will trade it for a good player in the league to help our team

Yet GM Chuck Fletcher managed to get forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux, defenseman Kurtis Foster, a second round pick in 2013 and a conditional third round pick in 2013 from the New Jersey Devils for Zidlicky on Friday night.
