Actually that's incorrect. While Phoenix had fewer points, they won their division and get a worse pick if both teams lose in the Conference Finals. 27 through 30 are still in play.

27 (NJD and PHX lose CF)
28 (NJD and LAK lose CF)
29 (NJD lose SCF)
30 (NJD wins SCF)

And in every case it makes sense to ditch the pick. Really a no brainer at this point.

That's sexy.

In terms of our picks:

1st round (27-30)
2nd round (58-61) -- Sharks get the 55th pick for "losing" a former first round pick
3rd round (88-91)
4th round (96) -- For David Steckel
5th round (135) -- For PL3
5th round (148-151)
6th round (178-181)
I think it's hilarious that we essentially moved up 20 spots in the fourth round while turning Steckel and Sova into Poni.

And I still don't know what sort of meth haze induced Feaster to give us a fifth for a goon that Lou wanted out anyway.

and I think you can bump each of those lower end numbers up one (27 to 28, etc.) since we had a better record than both PHX and LA

lol, I forgot about the Steckel pick. The fact we were basically able to turn Arnott and a conditional third into Zidlicky and Poni and keep the rest of the draft intact is mind boggling.

1000000% you drop this years pick. I don't have to think for a second.

Yes, but imagine this:

We lose this round. When asked, Lou says, "No, we'll forfeit next year's, because that will be 30th overall." then drops the microphone and walks off the stage.

That would quite possibly be the toughest thing ever done.

Okay, that would be completely badass. But Lou doesn't say things he isn't totally, unequivocally sure of... So, I think this year is the year.

There isn't even a second thought in giving up this pick. Your one of the final four teams. I don't care if everyone returns next year and we got a "Suter" type D. You don't plan on being one of the final four teams. And lol to determining if we are the 27th-30th.... It doesn't matter at this point.

Lou and Conte would have to be massively in love with someone that they believe isn't high on other ppls boards to keep this pick. Ok, so maybe there is a tiny discussion to be made?

Except you have to decide whether to surrender the pick days after the Cup Finals, not at the draft table. Even if there were people they would want to pick at 27-30 they'd have no idea if said players would fall to them or not. And that isn't worth giving up a pick that could be at least ten spots higher the next year.

After four years of not getting out of the first round, with all the upsets in this year's playoffs it absolutely can't be left up to chance. It'd be a cute five-second soundbyte like Tanner at the end of the Bad News Bears movie then we'd all be saying how stupid Lou was by morning.

I mean we have both our goalies, Zach and Salvador as UFA's among others, and half the team still up for sale. There's less than no reason to leave it for next year.

If we win the Cup, Lou should just have Parise hand him the signed forfeiture as he receives the cup from Bettman.

LMAO

what a difference a year makes....last year getting a top 4 pick....this year getting (and giving) a bottom 4 pick!

And we still get it, but we go last? I'm kinda confused.

Or does it go to like a lottery team like Edmonton?

Hey ya never know. Maybe Edmonton has two Calder Trophy Finalists next year after yet again finishing in 13th place?

well ya figure its a late first round pick, lets just say it was the #30 pick (last first rounder), we give that up, and the first second round pick becomes the last first round pick.
by this time (in the draft) its not a huge deal giving or getting that particular pick.

I love all the ridiculous scenarios and writings regarding Lou and his "letter to Bettman" that couldnt be any further than how the man actually acts. All of them are great.
