The situation with the defensmen is such that Brodin should be in the team.
He could be an generational talent, elite atleast.

We need him to grow up fast, Suter can mentor, im sure his offensive side wont develop in Sweden.

We will see what he looks like in the development camp this week. He probably will be the best player on the ice besides Granlund and Coyle.

I am saying that if Brodin doesn't make the Wild opening day and he wants to go back to SWE, Fletcher could easily talk him into staying in the states.

No doubt in my mind he starts his career this year in North America.

No, I get that...
Just don't understand the "If Fletcher and Co. and convince Suter and Parise to join the Wild" part.

We got Suter and Parise like...four days ago. Haven't you heard?!

Hold your horses, partner. Don't get those expectations too high.

Yes. Yes I am more than aware. I have been non-stop crying since they have signed... I am hinting to the idea that Fletcher and Co. can say anything they want and players will listen

the "if" was past tense. They convinced two free agents to come and play for MN, they can easily keep Brodin within the organizations grasp.

Whether or not Fletcher and Co. had much to do with Parise and Suter signing here in the first place or not, is left unknown. They could have made the decision on their own, with little or no help from Fletcher

I see what you were tryin' to say now. I'm sure Brodin will be playing minutes with the club this year. I have seen his highlights for the last two years and the kid can downright skate circles around men, and makes good decisions.

I agree... but I was commenting on someone else's post about Brodin possibly going back to SWE over Houston or MN

I think he is here to stay in America and his pro days in SWE (home) are over for the next decade +

Do you think he's better than Scandella already? I'm not saying he isn't because I haven't been able to see him play much but that would be pretty impressive for a 18 soon to be 19 year old.

I don't like to make comparisons across leagues. It's not quite accurate. Lets just say I expect him to make the roster.

I honestly don't know what to expect from him. Common sense tells me that he should play in Houston or Sweden, but I can totally see Brodin coming into camp and outplaying everybody. Either way will be fine with me.

My expectation is that he will be the best in reading the game, positioning himself and taking the puck, generally making the right call defensively.

I expect him to be among the best in creating turnovers and giving the first pass.

I dont expect him shooting or hitting much but i would like to know how he does in PP.

I hope these are confirmed by some source and i can have more Stanley Cup dreams.

Agreed. Brodin is a great young kid but putting anything higher than a "first pairing defenseman" expectations is overdoing it.

His offensive hockey sense is still in question, and his shot is still very average.

For me, I expect him to develop into a #2 guy thatll eat up 25+ minutes, play 1st PK and 2nd PP, and produce ~30 pts. I see that has potential to be a #1 guy but I don't expect it from him

That does raise the question of do Finnish hockey abide by the "adding a 'y' to make a nickname" code?

I guess I've never really understood why fans love to attach nicknames to virtually every player.....I think players should earn the nickname based on their style of play and/or persona: Golden Jet, Russian Rocket, The Rocket, The Great One, Mr Hockey, Boom Boom Geoffrian....even Boogey-Man....

It's not just the fans, the players themselves do it to pretty much all their team mates.

And oftentimes the names are short. If you're calling something out to a teammate during the middle of a game, you don't want to have to yell out "Langenbrunner." That's a long name that takes a long time to say. Instead you can just yell "Langs" or some other nickname without wasting all that time.

I get that....it makes sense in that case....but I think it's wierd when the fans use those same nicknames....I could never bring myself to call Setoguchi (Seto) or Lattendresse (Lats) or Heatley (Heater)....

I know I'm in the minority, however. IMO, those are nicknames that should be used by people/teammates who are familiar with them (in the sense that they talk to them on a personal level quite regularly) not by someone who watches them from "afar" (as in us, the fans).

It is usually out of endearment. Verbal pats on the butt.

It's always sweeter when it comes from Heater.
