Clinton shows up to a lot of Ranger games. If he's even a Ranger fan (or one at the time), maybe that has something to do with it.

Not sure if Obama's a hockey fan anyway so I don't see him calling the Conn Smythe winner.

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
Maybe if Chicago had won the cup, but I doubt if any of the remaining 4 win they will get a Presidential call. Just the usual White House visit and photo op.

Yes exactly, I am shocked no one else put 2 and 2 together.
If it means anything, I came here to post that.
Leetch was an American player, on an American team, won the Cup, first American to win the Conn Smythe. Doesn't take rocket appliances to figure this one out.
So wait, why did Clinton call in '94.. Somebody needs to clear this up. Quickly. Is it because he was born in Arkansas? Was it for Hilarys political aspirations?
Clinton actually shows up to quite a bit of Ranger games.
That's actually a big surprise to me. Clinton never went to Caps games until they made it to the finals in '98. Then, in game 3 or game 4 he was interviewed during intermission, and didn't seem to have a clue about the game.
Maybe that's what converted him? Seeing the Red Wings paste the Caps?

He has a lot more free time now, I'm sure he was pretty busy when he was actually president and all.
And he "works" in NYC. I'm not sure how much actual work he does these days, but his offices are in NYC so he's at least in the city a decent amount of the time.
