NBC crew bias showing. They werent pointing it out but when the Rangers were doing it last round they would yell that the penalized player took a stupid penalty.

Kovalchuk defensive zone turn over leads to goal and Milbury goes on tirades when Ovechkin turns it over in the offensive zone leading to goals, but nothing like that for Kovalchuk, what did Ovi do to him.

I think Callahan needs to work on his slap shots in the offseason...

Great that the Rags lost. And the way they lost with their entire team laying around trying to stop that last shot, fabulous.

The "Hey you suck" chant was also timely.

Anyone notice how after years of disappointing in the playoffs playing passively, the Devils switch to a more aggressive system and are now in the SCF?

The scary thing is the Caps have better offense, defense, and arguably goalie...

I'd like to see someone like DeBoer coach this team...

I think it's great that Richards was behind Lundqvist trying to save the puck after he's the one who scored the game 5 game-tying goal when Carlson was trying to do the same.

Their offense is better by a fair bit. Clarkson, Elias and Zubrus are really underrated.

A year ago the Devils were out of it and hooked us up with Arnott, now they could get swept and it would still be as far as the Caps have ever been.

Clarkson and Zubrus were 3rd liners before this year, and now in a more aggressive system they look much better. Elias has always been good, but even he has done better this year.

I'd still say our offense is better, especially if you add in defenseman (and I'm only saying the Caps are better if they have a more offensive coach)... I mean I think these are pretty modest predictions on what these players could've done last year with a more offensive coach...

Ovechkin - 100 pts
Backstrom - 90 pts
Semin - 80 pts
Johansson - 65 pts
Green - 65 pts
Laich - 55 pts
Wideman - 50 pts
Carlson - 45 pts
Brouwer - 45 pts
Chimera - 40 pts

Took the devils one year after a failed season to turn it around

Caps still haven't turned the corner.

And the kings might win, another team the finally will win a cup.

God I hate being a Caps fan sometimes

Having 3 defenseman hit 45 points or more is a bit unrealistic no? Especially if they play on 3 different pairings.

That's all well and good on paper, but IRL Zubrus and Clarkson and Ponikarovsky to an extent have been absolutely dominant along the boards and on the forecheck and are a huge reason that unsightly defense that actually gives Peter Harrold ice time got to the SCFs. Parise/Zajac/Kovalchuk/Elias/Henrique/Josefson/Zubrus/Clarkson/Ponikarovsky is simply a more dangerous top 9 than ours even if we win out on the top end talent. Add in their 4th line which seems to be this year's version of Bergenheim-Moore-Downie.

I ****ing hated it when we let Zubrus go and replaced him with Nylander.

I agree that we need to be more offensive FWIW.

That's kinda my point though... With a more offensive system, NJ's top 9 looks very good. Last year Clarkson had 12g 6a, this year 30g 16a; Zubrus 13g 17a last year, 17g 27a this year; Sykora who was on their 2nd line played himself out of the NHL a few years ago and then comes over on a try out and gets 21g 23a; Ponikarovsky had 39 points for the better part of the last 2 years (126 games), he had 18 points in 33 games with NJ.

Hell, even look at Kovalchuk. He had an even worse last year than Ovechkin did this year, and was back over a PPG this year. Elias looked like he was declining last year, and then puts up 78 points this year, a 16 point jump from last year.

All of these players have benefited from having a more aggressive, creative, and offensive system. And so have their below average defense and aging net minder, since they control the puck much more than they used to.

There's more to it than just offense though. They control the boards and their forecheck is second to none. Our Laichs, Johanssons, Chimeras, Beagles, Semins would get slaughtered along the boards against them. Zubrus could probably tie our whole team up for a good minute or so. Ironically we had a guy like that in Kozlov but **** on him relentlessly because he didn't have a mean streak like all big forwards are apparently supposed to. We have the makings of a good board line with Hendricks, Beagle and Ward but I feel like for us speed and keeping it to the center of the ice would be the key. We really need to narrow it down to no more than two identities (one for top 6 and one for bottom 6 at most, preferably one across the whole team but that could be a bit more difficult) and go for it.

I really wonder how the Kings bottom 6 and their 2nd line, which has Carter who disappears when things get physical and Penner who isn't exactly the most reliable player around, will deal with their Devils' counterparts. Kings defense is pretty well equipped to deal with the Devils' style though. Mitchell, Scuderi, Greene and Doughty can offer some serious pushback.

Wth was Girardi doing going behind the net and leaving Henrique, lol. Of course happy that the Rangers are eliminated. Further evident that Lundquist.....I'll stop there.

I'm glad Devils won, but it wasn't on Lundquist. NJ's offense is underrated, good mix of youngsters, game breakers and just pure hard workers... Without Semin our offense isn't going to get better too.

Only question is how many games will it take for the Kings to beat the Devils: 4...or 3

Meh. Don't think so. Their luck just ran out. It was the third straight series where their skaters were outplayed by the opposition.
