It seems that more people were pissed about the Ovie hit than this hit. I just don't get it. Ovie plays a little reckless and leaves his feet a little. Bad play, but he wasn't trying to hurt anyone. Giroux is clearly taking his anger out on Zubrus there. Intent? Check. Late? Check. To the head? Check.

Thats gotta be a suspension. I have no idea how many games though...

The way I see OV vs. Girardi is that one of them was going to hit the other. OV just over powered Girardi.

Giroux was the only that was going to be a hitter and it looked cheap. It looked like a Bourque type play.

It's pretty awesome how many Devils fans on the Cup board don't want Giroux suspended because they want to beat the Flyers for who they are.

Bruins fans were also pretty much unanimous that they didn't want to see Backstrom suspended for the same reason.

That's not the company line out of New York right now.

it may be that I have given my son a somewhat Ovie-centric education on hockey.

we were listening to the Devils-Flyers came on radio today. when Zubrus scored the ENG, my kid said, 'Is that the guy Ovie decided not to room with his rookie year, even though they both spoke Russian, because Ovie wanted to learn English?'

uh, yeah, dude, i guess.

not sure where he picked up that tidbit. i'm not sure i'd ever heard that myself.

They don't whine about that stuff and wants to beat them at full strength because they are used to winning, and the Rags board that whines about every perceived slight over officiating, suspensions, media attention, etc. and use them as excuses are used to being losers.

It's funny because there are kids here throwing a tantrum about Giroux and that he "better get a suspension" when it has no real effect on the Caps who are still in their series.

Giroux should be suspended because he hit Zubrus in the head, which is something the league is supposedly trying to get out of the game. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the Caps or their series.

Exactly. A terrible hit to the head. Could've broken a guy's neck. I love Giroux but hate the hit. 5 games.

It was a careless late hit of the stupid variety, stop trying to make it sound like he was trying to take Zubrus' head off. Zubrus did move his body up at the last second so that Giroux went from lining up his shoulder to the chin. Of course, still Giroux's fault for throwing a hit that late. Does it deserve a suspension? Maybe a game. Will he get one? Probably not. Does it really matter that much to the Caps or any teams outside of Philly and NJ? Not at all. There is a difference between feeling he should be suspended vs throwing a hissy fit like you are a Rags fan if he isn't.

It's pretty telling that some people here are more pissed about it than Devils fans.

New Jersey fans know they are going to win. Boston fans thought they were going to win. Rangers fans think they are going to lose.

I'll be mildly surprised if he's suspended. I didn't think the video was terribly conclusive as to whether he initially made contact with chin or chest. Though aside from that and the fact that it was shoulder instead of elbow, it was a very similar incident to Bourque on Backstrom.

I don't think it maters anyway. The Flyers are getting chewed up by the Devils' cycle game.
