Kipper to Chicago

Posted this on the Flames one, but wanted to post it here just to see what Hawks fans think

It's pretty evident that the Hawks will be in the market for a goalie this offseason. They may draft one with their pick but have to wait at least 3 years until his ready. Sure they can afford to wait with the young core, but will the management do so?

Here's my proposal:

to Chicago: Kipper
to Calgary: Corey Crawford, Chicago's 1st in 2012 (19th), and either Brandon Saad, Mark McNeill, or Jeremy Morin

There's no doubt that Kipper is still a top 10 goalie in the league. Coming off one of his best seasons last year just proves that he still has a few years left in him. Getting Kipper immediately makes Chicago a contender again and doing so without splitting the core up is just the cherry on top.

With this trade, Calgary gets a goalie that has started, and do well before. Crawford can split time with Irving to develop a goalie duo that we're seeing more and more nowadays instead of relying on one goalie. We're also getting two important pieces that will help the re-tool/rebuild in the 19th pick and one of Saad, McNeill, and Morin.

This is the best scenario for a Kipper trade because Chicago has much more to offer than say, Tampa or Toronto.

No thanks, Crawford and the 1st (a good first) is enough.

Seems like a pretty steep price for a guy who will be 36 this year and hasn't won a playoff round since before the lockout.

Way too much to give up for a 35 year old goalie, Crawford and a 1st would definitely consider, throwing a prospect in on top of it though definitely not.

That is WAY too much for a guy that could easily pump out a .905 SV% and not surprise anyone if he did so.

I dont think age should be a concern for Kipper since he's so well conditioned. Plus he wont need to play as many games as he's played with Calgary with a capable backup.

Also, Kipper's played in front of this crappy Calgary for the last 7 years. Of course he won't have shiny numbers but put a Hawks team in front of him he will have elite numbers.

His Vezina days might be in the rear view for him but he's still very much a top 10 goalie and a big upgrade for you guys in goal. Kipper's the only reason people come to watch games.

Still, Crawford and a 1st is a lot and we wouldn't add more. That's the top end return if you want to trade him here. We know you won't get a better deal from Tampa or Toronto if you are looking for picks plus a goalie. They have neither. (well Tampa has Detroit's worse 1st)

for

Crawford, 1st, Saad, Frolik, Pirri, Emery

Just a wings fan popping in & I've got to say there is no way you're getting Saad in a deal for Kipper. He is there best prospect & there's no way you would get him for a 35 year old goalie. I think the absolute max you could get for Kipper is Crawford+1st+2nd.

I also don't think you would get McNeill, there is no player on Calgary (outside of Iggy, Jbo or Gio) worth McNeill/Saad + 1st.

How about McNeill, a 2nd and Crawford for Kipper.

Kipper's cap hit would make it difficult for chicago to improve the team in other areas

Also no chance we give up saad

Yeah, Frolik should be part of this as a dump no matter how you slice it.

No thanks.

Would rather take my chances on CC than Kipper. Sophomore slump is just that, I think.

Did you mean because we have Emery locked up next season and Crow for the next two?

I might've reached when I mentioned Saad You guys got a real gem in him, with the 43rd pick

I do like the McNeill, 2nd, and CC for Kipper though. I think that's a fair deal and fills the needs of both teams

Kipper deal doesnt make sense though. He's UFA in two years and old, and realistically, the Hawks D isn't much better than Calgary's. This is Crow's first full year and whether anyone agrees or disagrees with it, Bowman will give him another chance at the start of next season. If it doesn't work out he will get traded or buried, but Stan isn't a hasty guy that will deal based on emotion.

It'd be pretty hard to do that with Scotty behind him pushing his buttons

I don't think Scotty has much to do with the transactions because were that to be the case, I would say he is suffering from dementia.

Craw + 1st or Craw + 2nd + Beach/Morin or Rensfeldt IMO is all that Flames will get

I'd happily do Craw+ 1st+ Morin.

We would actually be using our capspace and would put Morin to good use.

Morin has no room on this team IMHO. Hossa, Kane, Sharp, and Saad have our top6 winger spots locked up. Morin is a bit redundant.

Kiprusoff kept the flames from picking 4th overall this year. He's still got it and of he were a Hawk our team goes DEEP into the playoffs.

While Kipper has a $5.83M cap space, he only mkaes $1.5M in the 2013-2014 season, so may well retire unless he's signed to an extension at the end of next season.

That's a huge risk, as you might be either getting one year of Kipper, or perhaps 5.

Thta's a huge risk for a goaltender who has posted a save % of .906 or below in 3 of the last 5 years.

And who's lifetime save % is .914 vs. Crawford's .910.

Absolutely not. What's the point in mortgaging draft picks and prospects for a goalie in his mid 30's?
