Ha, this was the first thing that occured to me as well.
the proxy at my job prevents me from accessing that article.
can anyone give me a rundown? is his contract only for AHL?
AHL contract for next season...in theory an NHL team could swoop in and offer him a two-way NHL contract, but it happens so infrequently one could get away with saying it never happens.

oh okay. im guessing its because we are at the contract limit, if im not mistaken right?

Nope, SJ could have signed him to an NHL deal and didn't.
Only think I can guess is if they signed him to an NHL deal it would need to be three seasons and they may not want to commit to him that long if his size turns out to be an issue...based on what I saw it shouldn't be, the kid can play and he can play tough if he needs to.

I hope he earns an NHL deal with the Sharks. Since it's not an NHL deal, was it the Worcester FO that decided to sign him or do these deals come from SJ?

Possible this is just a contract limit issue and they made a deal with him with the AHL contract until after July 1st? I'm a little unclear on how all that works.

Is it possible that he gets more than $62.5k (max AHL salary on an ELS) on this deal? I know they allow 10% of the ELS NHL salary to be paid out as a signing bonus, but a higher wage might be more enticing.

Despite the way the CBA is worded contracts for next season don't count, so SJ could have signed him to an NHL deal and didn't.
