Caps-Leafs

Ovec for Kessel + 5th overall?

Ovechkin needs a change of scenery and Leafs needs a star

I dont think either does it.

Washington doesn't trade Ov regardless.

and Kessel can score with the best of them and the top 6 are strong in this draft.. Toronto has too many holes. 2 good players beats 1.

Washington doesn't do it and Toronto doesn't trade the cheaper Kessel and the 5th for him.

Burke has to much pride to go back on Kessel and we aren't good enough yet to give up that value for 1 albeit Ovy.

I don't know why Toronto wants to upgrade the one player that I think exceeded expectations. There are too many holes, and a need for depth, not just the addition of a generational talent.

Value wise, it's not even close for Toronto, mean Washington wouldn't even pause to chuckle as they hang up, but "not having Ovechkin" isn't what's wrong with the Leafs.

If we are trading Ovechkin then it means we're completely embracing hard nosed physical defensive hockey head over heels, in which Kessel is literally the last player we would want back.

Ovechkin even in a slump is top 5 in the nhl, i'd do this deal in a heart beat and i like Kessel, doubt Washington does though.

Yikes..

The Leafs are nowhere near being able to contend for anything other than top-5 lottery picks these days because they have far too many holes that need to be filled with high-end young talent. Not even Ovechkin (as good as he is) would be enough to turn the Leafs into a play-off contender., which makes this proposal utterly stupid.

A far better proposal for both sides would be:

To Washington: Phil Kessel
To Toronto: Colorado's 1st (2012), + Washington's 1st (2012).

Kessel would help Washington improve their chances as he would add scoring to their team and could possibly replace Semin (should he end up leaving soon).

Kessel won't help the Leafs improve even if he stays until the end of his contract. Trading him now for the 2 1sts would be much better for the Leafs in the short- and long-term.

With the 5th overall (and the other 2 1sts if such a trade were made), the Leafs would be able to jump-start a proper re-build, and in a couple of years, they'd be able to fill some of their holes with high-quality talent.

With Kessel potentially in their line-up, Washington probably wouldn't miss a beat in their quest for the Stanley Cup.

Of course, this probably wouldn't happen anyway, due to Burke's idiotic pride.

Oh well....

Not even close. Kessel had a better year than ovi, and the 5th overall pick can fill a hole- either #1 centre or #1D. We would want Carlson/Alzner + for Kessel.

So let me get this straight, the Leafs basically trade Segin, Hamilton & the 5th OA this year all for Ovi? I say that's a little pricey even for him.

That's below what a player of Ovechkin's caliber goes for unless their team is purposefully trying to push them out.

Umm, Wayne Gretzky says "Hello". Then we have Joe Thorton, Heatley (three times actually) and Brad Richards just to name a few. Also, lets not forget one of the best dmen of all time Mr Raymond Bourque. You can make an argument that some of the guys on my list are MORE valuable than Ovi while the others are at least close but none of tjem returned anyrhing close to that in value.

Ovi isn't worth anywhere close to that much in value no matter what you may think.

This would not happen because it's a proposal that does the CAPS no good what so ever. The CAPS are far better off keeping their picks and venturing into the free agent market to fill needs.

Gretzky was traded by a corrupt owner and the return included 15 million in cash, which is no longer legal in the NHL. Aside from that Ovechkin is a better talent than Thornton, Heatley, and Richards combined.

I just threw up in my mouth a little...did you seriously just mention Heatley and Ovechkin in the same sentence??????? And try and compare the returns???? Ovie is waaaaaay more valuable than guys like Heatley and Thornton...and your ignoring situations as well. For instance, TB had to trade Richards due to cap. Nice try

Phil Kessel playing for Dale Hunter's "no offense, all defense" grinder loving system? Yeah no. Ovechkin looks like a Selke-winning all around stud when next to Kessel.
