San Jose: Clarke MacArthur ($3.25 million / 1 year)

Both left wing players have similar cap hits and one more year remaining on their contract. The Leafs could use a more physical presence on the wing, and San Jose can use a speedy left winger to replace Clowe.

Both players statistically are pretty similar except one left winger is speedier, while the other is tougher. It would be a win-win trade for both trade partners, and Clowe would be in the East.

Does this trade make sense for San Jose to pull the trigger?
Downgrade, but I'll do it. If Macarthur was changed to Gunnarsson, I'd be more inclined to do it. Either way, I'd say this would be a win win.
Would do this in a heartbeat from Leafs PoV.
Would even add a mid-level prospect or pick to sweeten the pot.
(3rd, Nicholls, Brenner, Mikus, Rynnas, etc.)

Clowe is not getting traded for a draft pick, end of story.

His value to the team right now is more than a late first will be, now. And Wilson isn't rebuilding or dumping salary.

I'd do this from the Leafs for either of them.

While I doubt he goes for 'just' a draft pick, Wilson did openly try to trade him a few years ago at the draft. After his stinker of a season, and a CLEAR need to improve team speed, and his likely exit via free agency after another season... I would be utterly shocked if he is not traded.

Would San Jose do a big deal like this?:

MacArthur + Franson + Colborne + McKegg

for

Clowe + Wingels + Doherty + Mashinter

No need for Franson, no desire to trade Wingels. Take those two out and maybe we talk.

Colborne + McKegg is a little bit better than Doherty + Mashinter I think... Maybe add a Benn Ferriero or a 3rd from the Sharks?

The difference between Colborne + McKegg and Doherty + Mashinter is covered by the difference between Clowe and MacArthur, I think, eh?

Clowe + Doherty + Ferriero + Mashinter for Colborne + McKegg + MacArthur?

I'd do it.

I'd definitely do that from a Sharks POV.

Agree, take out Franson and Wingels. I think Clowe should make up the difference, but if necessary the Sharks could add Ferriero and the Leafs can add a later pick (a 3rd or a 4th maybe?).

While the trade is acceptable, I'd want to find a way to get Gunnarsson in teal as well. I think he fills a need for the Sharks on the left side with some puck-moving ability. Not exactly sure what the Leafs would want. I know that Clowe for Gunnarsson has been thrown out there but with all these additions made in the deals discussed in the last bit of this thread, I'm not sure what would be enticing for the Leafs to make Gunnarsson available.

Gunnarsson is pretty valuable for the Leafs.

I'd do Gunnarsson straight up for Clowe.

Or in the others deal we can put Gunnarsson instead of MacArthur, but Sharks would need to had a little bit to the deal.

Could probably take out one of Colborne or McKegg from the Leafs end and take out one of Mashinter or Ferriero from the Sharks end to even it out too.

So...

Gunnarsson + McKegg for Clowe + Doherty + Mashinter?

something ive thought of has been

clowe+3rd 2013 for colin wilson and ryan suters UFA rights. only if suter says outright hes goin to UFA.

even if he doesnt sign we still get wilson, a young pwf to play with thornton and if he does its a massive steal.

Pretty sure Wilson is untouchable. Though Nashville definitely has interest in Clowe from Trotz comments.

I don't think that Wilson is "untouchable" by any means, but it's not like he's being shopped.

What Trotz comments are you referring to?

He said something during the season about Clowe being exactly the kind of player Nashville needs. I can't find the exact quote.

I don't really understand why Sharks fans want Clowe out or believe he will be traded. I always felt he was one of the best players on the Sharks and to think he's fallen so far to be talked about being dealt for picks is insane to me.

Raymond + 1st pick for Clowe to me is a no-brainer and at the same time if I was a Sharks fan I would be livid with a deal like this.

Huh. Well, I'd definitely add something to Clowe to get to Wilson. He's the kind of kid we need.
