Talking about the original package, obviously Michael Ryder has continued to be a useful player but he did walk for nothing not very long after he was a part of the hundreds of infamous proposals.
He's a good player but that didn't make his value at the time worth all that much. Halak obviously ended up returning a couple of good players which is nice.
But the joke about those assets is that it was the Canadiens fans answer to what it will take to get this elite center, that power forward, this other big minute defenseman..
I am pretty sure no Canucks fan thinks that these players have the actual value to return any kind of quality player who doesn't have a major flaw like upcoming UFA status, a bloated long-term contract, etc.
4 years ago when Ryder, Halak and a 2nd was all the rage Ryder was a pending UFA, Halak was in the middle of a 34 game, 2.86 season and Montreal was the 8th seed in the east so the pick was around 16th.
Either way, the thread was looking at the irony of virtually every player that was rumored to be available was met with a Ryder, Halak and a 2nd offer from a group of Montreal fans. Now this season it seems every player to come available is met with a Raymond, Ballard and a 2nd response. Nobody was comparing values, the only comparison is the irony.
