The BlackBerry Z10 is available for preorder on Verizon now too.

Also in the USA the White Z10 is a Verizon exclusive, at least at first.

I still hope to pick up a Blackberry phone toward the end of the year before I leave the country. I'll have to pick one up and play with it before I decide for sure, but after setting up an Android phone for my dad (and having to flash it umpteen times to get a working ROM on there since the stock one apparently came damaged from the factory) and troubleshooting my sister's SGII, I'm even more convinced I want get a Blackberry phone.

I've spent the past few months without a mobile phone, and playing with my playbook. Working on these 2 Android phones, I went to gesture several times, and was frustrated when I realized I wasn't dealing with the Blackberry gesture system - it's just so natural and easy when you're used to it!

That's not really surprising since almost half of BlackBerry Z10 owners are switching from Apple or Android:

I'm interested to see how well the Q10 sells. I think a lot of people may have bought the Z10 instead of waiting for the Q10.

Although a lot of businesses will probably buy the Q10 for their employees.

Most business partners will move over and I think you will see more regular users move to it.

I've actually waited and have not bought the Z10...will compare it to the Q10 when it is out and buy the one I like better of the two.

I bought the Z10 because I didn't want to wait the extra months. In January I preordered a Q10 from Rogers for my wife.

Blackberry related

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/st...computing.html

Blackberry co-founders Mike Laziridis and Doug Fregin are teaming up again to establish a $100 million dollar private fund that will nurture Canada's fledgling quantum computing industry.

In a news release Wednesday night, the pair said they believe the fund will lead to the creation of new jobs and industries and help establish Waterloo as "Canada's Quantum Valley."

It's still early but funny how two years ago people were saying BB was dead.

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/busines...452/story.html

Quote:
BlackBerry’s stock soared more than 8% Wednesday after a big upgrade from a Morgan Stanley analyst.

Ehud Gelblum, a managing director of technology for Morgan Stanley, moved his rating on the company’s stock to the equivalent of a buy recommendation, from an earlier sell call. He said in a note to clients he now sees room for BlackBerry as a “niche midrange player,” something he had earlier said could not exist in the current smartphone market.

Mr. Gelblum said his change of heart comes after the lack of traction the new Windows 8 smartphones have been getting. In addition to his upgrade, Mr. Gelblum also moved his price target to $22 from $10.

Even more interesting is this statement. I still don't think they will sell but this does bring up the licencing option again.

Quote:
He notes in particular, that the market itself is showing fatigue with the dominance of Apple and Google’s Android. Mr. Gelblum points to moves by two companies that use the Android OS on their devices — LG and Samsung — both of which have moved recently to experiment with non-Android operating systems on their devices.

Al of that naturally increases the chances of BlackBerry getting scooped up for its operating system.

“We believe the smartphone market may yet look to move off its two-OS system (referring to Google and Apple), making BlackBerry’s BB10 operating system potentially valuable to other industry players looking to diversify,” he said.

It's funny how prevalent the BlackBerry is going out of business mentality was. Anyone with half a brain could see that they were still profitable and had zero debt.

BlackBerry Reports Fourth Quarter and Year-End Results for Fiscal 2013

BlackBerry Reports Fourth Quarter and Year-End Results for Fiscal 2013:

http://crackberry.com/blackberry-rep...ts-fiscal-2013

"BlackBerry returns to Profitability & 6 million BlackBerry Smartphones were shipped last quarter, with approximately 1 million of those devices being BlackBerry 10 handsets (remember, that's about a month's worth of UK sales and three weeks in Canada). Also of note, former RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis is stepping down from the board."

Also interesting is that they Confirmed that Over 50% of BlackBerry Z10 buyers are switching from iOS & Android.

It also sounds like the BlackBerry Q10 will be launched in April.

Not to be a debbie downer on Neely's parade, but to put the newly found profitability into perspective, BlackBerry's profits in Q4 2013 were $2.7 billion, down 36% ($4.2 billion) when compared to Q4 2012. So while they stopped bleeding money and actually made money, I believe a lot of this is attributed to restructuring a bloated company (which is a good thing).

Hey dude, the comeback is a marathon, not a sprint. This is really good news for BBRY even though to Google or Apple fans might not see it as a big deal.

Might want to get things a little straight, those numbers are the revenue not the net profit. The Q4 2013 profit was $98M compared to a loss at the same time last year. So that is what matters more at this time.

I want to see Blackberry do well as anyone else, but I just want to put things into perspective. Making money is great, but I just wanted to point out that this more to do with proper restructuring of the company rather than increased sales.

This is indicated by the lowered revenues on a past year comparison.

If anything, I'm much more interested by Q1 2014 numbers as we will have been able to see the effects of a full fiscal quarter worth of BB10 sales.

Yes, I prefer Android, but please stop assuming all my posts are to attack Blackberry. It simply isn't true.
