Good for him. He's coming along well for a 7th rounder

Good news for Pelss

So does that mean Czerwonka is gone?

I like this signing. Not an impact player, but I like his drive. I'd rather see this type of player get a contract instead of a guy like Martindale.

My hope for him is that he turns into a Latvian Fernando Pisani.

Nice! Guys with speed, a good work ethic, and decent hands are nice to have in the system, if for no other reason than to push the higher touted guys in the minors. I really like Pelss' game, hope he makes it.

not every player we sign needs to be an impact player--oilers have lots of top end talent and need more role players

Excellent. Glad to see it. Love his drive, and love hearing people in the know saying he reminds him of Darren Helm.

I kinda hope not, but you never know. I think the oilers will cut the fat on a few players (Omark, Barker, possibly VV, Chorney) so contracts should be available for a few more players.

I'm happy with this signing, IMO they picked the right prospect to throw a contract at.

Pelss has always been an interesting prospect for me, his stats aren't eye-popping or anything, but when you watch him play you can see he has some skill. You don't see it on the majority of his shifts, but every now and then he jumps out at you with his speed and very strong wrister and scores a key goal for his team.

If nothing else, at minimum he should top out as a good depth AHLer.

Not a chance for VV but the others yes. I could see getting a 7th for Omark, Peckham will be dealt and Barker/Chorney can take a hike.

I think it was Stauffer that was quoted here talking about how it was one or the other. Maybe I miss read or maybe it was just Stauffer's opinion that has nothing to do what he's heard from the team.

We don't have a spot for CVV. I doubt we just cut ties with him like Barker, but I can definitely see us dealing him if he's not happy in the AHL

I'm not so sure about this signing. I like the guy, but I'm not sure he's worth taking up a contract spot when we're going to be pushing close to 50 this next year.

don't know about VV's future here. I like him as a potential long-term answer in the bottom 6 but that's up for the team to decide.

I hadn't heard that, but now that i think about it I am a tiny bit surprised that Czerwonka hasn't been signed yet.

I've said it once and I'll say it again...barker needs to be jettisoned into orbit.

I think VandeVelde serves a pretty important role as a big guy down the middle for OKC, and I don't see Martindale or Pitlick playing a defensive role for the Barons next year either so I'd bring him back.

I'd like to see the Oilers clear out enough contracts so they can sign Czerwonka too though.

I can see VV being a NHler some day. I just don't see it being much more than a 4th line center with PK skills, which is fine. But how long do you spend developing a guy like this when you can get guys that are already at VV max potential for 600-800k on free agent day?

I mean we don't have a spot for him in the NHL. I'd love for him to come back for OKC and then have the occasional injury callup

They shouldn't have gotten themselves in a bind, we have some dead wood in the 50 as it is.

Don't really like it. Just another Darren Helm clone.
