If Garrison wants 5 per, we should say goodbye. That contract would become an albatross in the future.

My humble between the lines interpretations:

Theyll get Gbomb done..likely in the low 4's.

He will get Versteeg done too.

Clemmer has no chance of signing here.

Ellerby likely tradebait.

Sammy is tough, how badly does he want to come to practice in flips? We all saw his value especially in pp...

Sturm gone.

I don't really know how Garrison can have a salary lower than Jovo.
And Garrison is very good, so that wouldn't be an albatross. The main question is what will the new CBA look like.

Can't see anything written between the lines regarding Clemmer, but maybe I need glasses after all.

Basing a decision of salary entirely on an different indepedant salary is not a clever business model.

One mistake shouldn't lead to another.

Jason Garrison isn't worth 5 million. He has one notworthy year of play, and he's not young. Time and time again, accross the NHL, we see hefty contracts after a small sample size that fail.

I'd rather let Garrison walk then overpay significantly for him. Garrison isn't irreplaceable.

Haven't seen this. Just read the article which was IMO more of Fialkov's own views than anything else.

I have to run off the board now, and cannot watch it, it's quite long (grrreat).

Will watch it tomorrow morning hopefully.

Listen to the wife AG... Listen to the wife.

You know, what's great about you, as opposed to many others, seems to be that you see what you want to see, whereas many others see what they don't want to/fear to see. Positivism is a gift, wish I had it.

everyone keeps poking and prodding at the garrison contract and no one other than soupy mentions Versteeg getting over 4 million for what? An inconsistent 20 goal scorer who was outstanding for 1/4 of the year and terrible the other 3/4. He is a defensive liability and some games there might as well be a ghost on the ice-who is more noticeable.

I dont want another David Booth type contract for another inconsistent type offensive player. Im concerned about giving versteeg over 4 million. He is not nor ever will be a first line player.

I don't care what anyone says but we NEED Madden back. Put him on the 4th line. He grinds, skates hard, checks, and outworks all of our youngins. He's cheap and a veteran leader!

Can't say I'm surprised at Garrison at 5 million. But Versteeg looking for a 4 year/18 million dollar contract... I'll pack his bags for him.

i think the whole success of our first line early in the year was due to weiss' play. When he plays on overdrive, versteeg looked very good. Weiss' play imo went down hill fast tho, i do not know why, but he was not creating anything off the puck.

Versteeg needs an elite center to really shine.

I think it'd be awesome if we brought him back with one caveat...wait until after the half-way mark of the season. He obviously still has the smarts to play but I'm wary of whether or not he can stay consistently good over the course of 82 games.

I really like what he brings for important games and when the playoffs come around. I think it'd be great to bring him on when the roster limit is gone and you can carry a few extra bodies. Hope Tallon can work out something like this with him. He's invaluable to any playoff team, but I don't think it would be the best use of roster space to have him for the full season.

Kulikov comes back from a serious knee injury... clearly not 100%.
Versteeg playing with a torn hip labrum...clearly not 100%.

People wanting to dump them because they weren't playing well with those injuries?

Unless they want crazy contracts, both of those guys need to come back.

I never said I wanted to "Dump" Kulikov, but you mean to tell me you wouldn't move him for the right goal scorer which this team sorely needs? I understand what a healthy Kulikov brings to this team but defense is a position of strength in this organization and we need offense. Kulikov would be one of our best trade chips.

If Tallon can swing a great trade - hell, noone is untouchable. I just don't see us getting equal value. I agree that he's one of our best trade chips, but...

I wouldn't trade Kulikov because after his injury he's not at peak value.

I wouldn't trade Kulikov because a potential 1st line PMD has more value than any other position outside of a potential 1C.

You do make good points and I value your opinion. I just think that if the right deal came about for a scorer that if I was Tallon I'd consider it. Plus Campbell is our #1 and is a PMD signed for quite a few more years. Again, not saying I want Kuli traded but there are options.

I agree.

I just am responding to what (I feel) is an unjustified attack by some (not you) on Kulikov based on his playoff performance.

I think people quickly forgot how well he was playing/progressing before his injury.

Weiss was also injured at one point during the season and thats when I think he slowed down. I dont think he was ever totally healthy the rest of the season. But I agree that to a large extent, the offense goes when Weiss is playing on all cylinders.

I'd be loathe to give Garrison anything over 3.5. I understand that he'll probably want more, but I'd prefer he get it somewhere else.

One good year is not a large enough sample size, and to give out a 5 million dollar contract based on that is a recipe for disaster.

I pretty much agree.

From when Madden was signed until the middle of March, he didn't do much of anything for us. It was only during the last few weeks of the regular season and into the playoffs that he really started playing well. If Madden is willing to accept being scratched a lot during the regular season, I could see bringing him back but otherwise I would think Smithson can also do a capable job.

The consensus from you, whale and I is :

Cant judge kuli just on his play post return of injury.

A pmd is a significant value, one which if we sign gbomb in we are rich in...kuli would be moveable, which is different than abandoning.
