I will be watching USA-Canada this weekend. If there's a power outage here for some crazy reason, I'll drive to a library and catch it that way. I need something sports-related that doesn't depress me even further, and that's my best chance so far.
(One would think that being an ardent follower of five different sports teams (plus another two followed casually) would mean you'd have at least a reasonable chance of having at least ONE thing to enjoy and be happy about. Then came this year.)

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
I'll be attending two games, Canada-USA and Finland-USA, and will proudly wear my Blue Jackets jersey for Canada-USA. Probably have to wear it to Finland-USA too. I do have a team Finland jersey but I'd have to lose some good 20-30 pounds before that thing fits properly
What's the story on Nash? Why isn't he playing? I was really looking forward seeing him play. Oh well, at least I get to see Methot and then Atkinson and JMFJ twice.
have to like that.. the kid just loves playing hockey right now and we will see how he does as a leader of a lesser skilled team than some others in the tournament.
I am interested in seeing Ryan Murray play for Team Canada. I wouldn't mind taking him at 2 if he can show some stuff here at the worlds
Isn't Steve Tambellini running things at the camp? Or Kevin Lowe? Someone from Edmonton, who is at the tournament, had a big say in getting Murray there ... my guess is it's an omen that they're looking long and hard at him with that #1 overall pick.

In a way this also forces their hand a bit. If they really like him, odds are they can't trade down too far or risk losing him. They want him...take him #1 and let the chips fall where they may. On the other hand, if he is that good and makes for a tough choice for Edmonton I feel a whole lot better about him as an option at #2 for CBus
I know it won't be popular but in the event Edmonton did take Murray, I still think the CBJ should consider trading down a couple slots if they could get a nice asset or two. However, I'm not sold on Yakupov being a franchise player.

I can't disagree with anything you said here. I think Yakupov will be a good player, but if we didn't end up with him, it won't be like missing out on Sidney Crosby. I'd go for our 2nd for, say, Toronto's #5, and their first rounder next year. I wouldn't be hurt one bit.

We might not hurt, but I think Burke's butt would be with all the burning torches the TOR fans would be pulling out with the trade of a future #1.
If we were assured of getting Galchenyuk at 5, I'd have no problem, but I think MTL would skip Gringorenko(due to his rep) and take Galy instead, thus we'd have Forsberg(who makes me nervous) or a D-man. Plus you know Yakupov would then tear up the league, be a candidate for the Hart in his first year, cause we are Columbus, and it's how we do things.

I think it would require an unreal package to get the #2 pick if Yakupov is on the board.
In the meantime, I say keep on going like this....force Edmonton to pick Murray at #1 if they want him. If a deal is made to flip picks, I still think it would be of the "change of scenery" type...everyone throws in a bunch of players who could use a change of scenery, and no one loses face in either direction.
