Very little mention of Kings/Coyotes here...

... people are getting tired of watching teams that are not Montreal play, I guess.

There is nothing like the Habs (especially when they are winning )

What a complete joke.

It's a 5 min major boarding. Pretty obvious to me. If he got a game misconduct, then yea, it's a little too harsh.

What's a joke is the dive called on Brown. That was a big slash from Smith. Pretty ridiculous to call that a dive.

No kidding, refs must have been scared to get booed by the relentless Phoenix fans.

The NHL says it's okay to put yourself in harms way to try to draw penalties.

I don't think that's right.

well if you didnt feel Doan deserved the 5 and a misconduct, Mike Smith going Hextall on Brown could have easily been one. Pretty obvious intent to injure a player.

And how the refs call that a dive. geesh. if i was a players id two hand a ref behind the legs and see if they dont fall to the ice.

So if somebody jaywalks when the light is green for you, you're just gonna run him over?

I'm not saying I agree with Lewis giving up his back, it's dumb. But letting hits like this one go unpunished would be even dumber as it would lead to even more checks from behind. Also, the less subjective the refs can be, the better.
Hit from behind, no matter if the player put himself in that situation or not, should be penalized. No exception.
Hit to the head, no matter if the player was skating with his head down, should be penalized. No exception.

Also, anybody saying players can't let up at the last minute are full of crap. If Lewis can skate to turn around, then Doan can decide to not put his whole weight into the check, even if he already committed to it. Heck, if I'm able to do it when I play, then these guys should have no problem doing it either. So I don't buy this argument for a second. It's as dumb as saying Chara didn't know who was on the ice or where the stanchion was when he destroyed MaxPac.

When will there be a rule for being an idiot by putting yourself vulnerable? If you turn to show your back, you should expect to hit the board/glass. So you better make sure you have a good solid stance and have your arms ready to cushion the impact.

I'm skipping this series...I'll try to watch a bit of the Rags and Devils

Hopefully NY and LA face eachother so we can at least see the 2 biggest u.s cities rivalry which could make it interesting

I'd be down for that. LA is a team build on Corsi and QualComp... or more prosaically puck possession and stacking players who can handle tough minutes.

The refs only really saw the hit from behind though. Doan won't get suspended because they have replay to show that the guy turned without enough time for Doan to react properly, but it's hard to say in the heat of the moment that that wasn't a penalty.

Darren Pang is such a Phoenix apologist. Pretending Smith wasn't diving all over the place.

and again a team that isn't scared to pull the trigger to make a big move. Penner last year even if it didn't work out until this post season, Richards in the off season, Carter at the deadline and other pieces, they drafted very well and made some good moves along the way

disgustingly dirty plays by phoenix last night.

On top of the Doan hit; there was the Hanzal hit on Brown which was clear intent to hurt Brown. Morris knee was very blatant as well and definitely deserves a suspension.

Doan shouldn't get suspended, but the other two definitely should.

"But they traded all those first round picks"!

The key here is shrewd assessment of assets -- understanding the potential value of a first round pick versus the realized value of a two-way first-line forward, especially on a long-term contract.

It helped that they dealt with the Oilers and the Jackets, who aren't exactly shrewd judges of assets. They were able to pass off a prospect on the verge of busting (Teubert) and a terrible 5-on-5 D-man (Johnson) as prime valuable assets.

5 min major = game misconduct (excluding fighting)
