Typical Sergei that he would pass the puck while standing 5 feet in front of the net all alone

Can't believe McDonaugh was traded for Gomez.

That kid's a freakin' monster. Unreal that we got fleeced that hard.

Everything positive Gainey may have ever did for this franchise in a management role is over shadowed by that absolutely horrendous trade.

I would almost equate this to the Roy trade. It's that bad.

It's really not.

McDonaugh is a very good player. He's also probably not the best defender on his team, let alone the equivalent of Roy.

Not defending Gainey but that Rivet for Gorges and Pacioretty deal looks mighty good right now for the Habs.

You're misunderstanding what I meant by equating the trade to the Roy trade.

I didn't mean it that McDo was as good as Roy, I'm saying that the impact of that trade reverberates as badly as the Gomez trade.

We traded an excellent Dman (that we most certainly could have used this year - and I disagree that he's not the Rangers best dman. If he's not, he's damn close) for a guy that handcuffed us cap wise, that brings nothing to this team and may actually be noxious.

Gomez will affect the Habs for years. Whether he's bought out or not. It's a matter of missed opportunities in this case.

So ya, I stand by what I said when I said it's similar to the Roy trade.

Those 2 trades are pretty much the north and south pole of gaineys career as habs gm, with the equator being balej for kovy

Well, the trade was no doubt terrible, but I think we helped the Rags more than we hurt ourselves with it. Obviously it hurt, but Gomez was decent for a year and as long as they do the right thing and bury Gomez, we won't have set ourselves back the way the Roy trade did.
