Fantastic news. Kid is physically ready , no need for a 4 year developmental plan. This should speed it up
Significantly. Id say he's a Marlie, with trips to the show. He would technically just be finishing his 3rd year of junior. This move gets me pumped.

There should be a tonne of people against this ... like most of the posters here.

Why are you so high on him being not in the NCAA anyways?

Really? Why would anyone not want him playing in the best developmental league in the world? OHL has produced more NHL hockey players than anyone. Seems to me to be a logical move.

I would rather see one more year at Miami in their S&C program.

His offense was really coming together at the end of the season, and playing against older, stronger competition was good for him.

Also, this is completely unconfirmed as of now.

This is not a big surprise, and was suggested as a possible outsome.

Good for him, he has many options now.

I kind of agree. He is a 1st round pick and his signing bonus will cover all the college he wants to take. But I think I would still like to see him for a year in Juniors. It helped D'Amigo and a 68 game season in a league where tough guys actually have to fight might make the transition to the pros easier. It would benefit him to be a bit more mature before trying to bring a power game to the AHL.

Much prefer to see him in the OHL than stay in the NCAA.

We want this kid to continue to develop strength, correct?
We want him to focus on developing his offensive skills, no?

One more year in Miami would've done wonders for these two things. I hope he stays.

Is 19 the drinking age in Ontario now? It was 18 when I started drinking but I think they put it back to 19.

I think it is 21 in Ohio, right?

Fewer options for him if his hockey career is a bust. Stay in school kids.

He was playing against Men in the NCAA while here he doesn't as much. I get what you are saying but I am I guess skeptical. Hope, if he goes to the OHL, that they make sure they bring out a round game.

If he plays next year in the O, can he play in the A the year after?

If so I think that's the best route for him.

19 here I think, but I haven't poured drinks in a long time. Nor do I drink much anymore.

The negatives of that for me are that these players come to pros 22-23 years old having never played more than 50 games in a season, never having played pro style hockey, never having played without a facemask and never having faced the level of aggression of the pro game. There is a lot of time wasted in the development of these players. The CHL players have a head start. Plus a year in the AHL is usually needed so the players aren't in your full time NHL lineup much before their mid-20's.

Im sure he's nearly close enough physically to do that, that would be awesome if he did

I think the NCAA would be better for his strength and conditioning; being able to compete against more physically mature players every game might be better preparation for play in the AHL/NHL. However, I think a year in the OHL would be much better for his offensive game. He should get more minutes, more games, and be expected to take on a larger role than he'd be given at Miami.

What does Ontario's drinking age have to do with anything?

Are people really still hung up on that hogwash about Kadri partying a little in his free time? Still trippin' over that ancient picture of Phaneuf?

He should stay another year in Miami because it's best for HIS development. PF's develop better when they're not knocking around 17 year old kids. He was playing with 20+ year olds in the NCAA, and they're much bigger and stronger than his competition will be in the OHL.

I'm an OHL advocate, but in this case, he's probably better served where he's at for another year. Another year with the Redhawks, then a move to the Marlies is probably the best route for him. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
