Ding ding ding. We have a winner. I would salivate if we iced this lineup.

If we could sign Parise, Suter and Konopka I would do backflips. Carkner would just be icing on the cake.

Why is it that nearly every capgeek lineup I see here is omitting Quincey? Do you guys really think they're going to get rid of him again after bringing him back in the first place?

If it were up to me, I'd have him on a plane to Nashville for Suter's rights as well, but let's be real here. The Wings gave up a lofty price to get him back; they'll give it a couple of years, at least, in assessing his progress and trying to justify that move as much as possible, before ultimately giving up a second time.

EDIT: For the record, I could see it as a good possibility that Ian White is moved, though. It makes a lot more sense that trading Q; he's older, his ceiling has already been established, he'd be easy to clear off the books (one-year left on his contract), his play really tailed off towards the end of the season, and he's not a homegrown product. Combine that with the fact that we didn't just give up a 1st round pick to bring him in, and it just makes a lot more sense, IMO.

...but I suppose anything could happen, so whatever.

I tried to be realistic, but its hard considering we have no idea which FA's will be retained by their teams or how they value their players when it comes to trades.

Only 1 trade centering around White for Boyle. It might also cost us a prospect or pick as well, but gives the bottom 6 some added toughness and a ton of extra hits, it also makes our penalty kill much more effective.

4 Free Agents added

Parise - a much needed speedy scoring winger who should have no problem replacing Hudler

Jurcina - 6'4 253lbs, lead the Islanders in hits, had over 100 blocked shots, and had more takeaways than giveaways.

Winnick - better than 2 to 1 ratio of takeaways over giveaways, good penalty killer who adds a more physical game than Miller. Would be great on the 4th line.

Clemmensen - major improvement over Conklin or MacDonald, should have no trouble reducing Howards workload and if Howard's play slips he's capable of starting regularly.

That would be real weird if he were a Hawks fan. There are a lot of Chicagoans here his age who aren't even Hawks fans, because the Hawks weren't televised when they were growing up (thanks to Bill Wirtz, who, ironically, was born in Detroit).

I like what he had to say and I hope it turns out. If we land Parise or Suter (let alone BOTH, which IS a possibility) I will cream in my pants. Even if we have to overpay a little for either or both, I'd be content. I can't wait to see what happens.

Didnt realize Carkner is a free agent

Wings have a chance to get arguably the toughest fighter in the league, that can actually play good minutes as a defenseman. That D could use some work and wouldnt mind trading Quincey for Suters rights just to make room for Carkner (and then sign Suter obviously)

Might as well throw Kindl in a trade somewhere.

Honestly, unless Lids retires, I don't see us signing two D-men this year, because I'm betting Babcock doesn't really want Smith to sit as the 7th D-man. Top 6 or bust for him, and if we get two free agent D I see Holland trying to push him down the depth chart to 7.

I wonder the same thing. Unless he is traded, he isnt going anywhere next year.

All these capgeek rosters are dreams that arent even possible under the best circumstances.

Q is going to get a 10% raise next year, like it or not. I dont like it, in fact I think its one of the worst uses of a 1st round pick that I can even remember. But Holland isnt going to let Q slip away, mostly because of the turnover and uncertainty on defense and partly because he would look like a complete fool trading a 1st for a guy he ousted in the very next offseason as a RFA.

One other thing I noticed in the teams that have been giving fits in playoffs.... faceoffs. Our percentage was waaaay down. In years we went deep, all the way, we had some pretty damn good faceoff artists... someone who would give us grit, scrappy, and FO skills, at a low cap hit- Zenon Konopka. He's UFA, and been doing 1 yrs, $750,000.
Could be a good start...

I don't know if Q qill get a raise. I think he will sign a contract that will either get him to UFA status at the same cap hit he currently has, but if he goes long term he will certainly get a bit of a raise. I also am very annoyed at the amount of people who are calling it the worst use of a 1st and a wasted 1st after the guy played here for a little more than a month. Let's wait a year before we start callin git a bust, no?

These are the UFA forwards that I think could benefit us the most. Anyone in the larger category would bring us great size, and a lot of them can be bottom six players that can be slotted into the top six to help if needed, like Cleary from a couple years ago. Glass is the only one that I know the Wings won't sign because he doesn't have much skill, although they might be able to snag him for 800K, which would be great.

I'm happy that Jimmy D and Babcock and Kenny are all on record saying the Wings need to get bigger and tougher. No doubt in my mind the team iced next year will be different, whether it's through free agency or development of our own players.

We don't need *one* Callahan player, we need a few guys who bring hustle and intensity as well as a decent skillset to replace the hesitant, complacent "skill" play we get from a few guys.

Not gonna lie, Cleary's game is getting old with me. I enjoy his "hustle" and stuff but i would rather fill it with someone with more drive and size.

Him and Bertuzzi just don't cut it for me.

Cleary just needs to take the first 4-6 months of the season off, and finally give himself some real recovery time. If he does that, he might have enough left in him for one last gasp at a strong playoff run.

It's painfully obvious that he hasn't been healthy for a long time. Yes yes, I know he had 26 goals in 10-11, I don't need to be reminded of that for the millionth time, but you can just see in his overall game that he's been hurting for a while, especially this year in particular. Why does he keep putting himself through this? Is the coaching staff forcing him to play, or is this his call? I don't get it.

He's under contract, and probably not going anywhere, so hopefully they don't make the same mistake with him again. If he's hurt at any point next season, rest him; don't force it. I think Cleary still has a place on this team, but not on one leg.

DarkReign was referring to what I believe to be a rule outlined in the CBA that dictates an RFA get a raise of at least 10% over his last contract.
