It's a shame that the game is basically the same year after year. Yes, there are a few minor changes. But I am ready for a new type of presentation from the NHL series.

it goes in 3 year cycles.

2011- Major Changes
2012- Minor Tweaks
2013- Minor Tweeks

next year the game will take a big step forward

I sure hope. I am so tired of hearing the same commentary every year lol. I am glad they finally added the reviewing goals/broken sticks and little things like that.

They never cease to amaze me how they fail to tweak obvious gameplay kinks. Of course that implies they even care about that stuff. Seems to all be about the modes when it comes to improvements, which is great but the AI needs some obvious niggles fixed. For some reason I don't think they key in to the fact that ppl play hundreds of games. The little "they'll get over it" issues become maddening after awhile. This lack of fine tuning and some downright bizarre player ratings (every year) make it hard for me to believe they even have real hockey consultants.

I haven't played since NHL 10, but do the computer teams still just pass the puck around the outside until they have a wide open chance or you steal it?

I don't play the comp much so I wouldn't know, but I do know that in ur own zone u pretty much have to control a Dman and be a one man band down low. If not then eventually a Dman does something ******** and leaves a man wide open. For some reason they can't even program the D to slide from their corner back and forth to the front of the net depending on where the puck goes. In fact I'm not sure what they programmed the D to do at all save for staying below the hash marks.

Sounds like next year is the better year for Geno to be on the cover then

Yes, the AI is just as horrible as it has always been. As mentioned by someone else you MUST control your Dman as soon as the CPU has the puck otherwise any non nub will just pass it a few times near the net, the AI will take both of your Dmen completely away from the play and leave the net wide open, and the goalie won't make a save for **** if you wrap around and go far side, or just one time it from behind the net, its so ********.

It makes more sense to have a forward on the cover than a goalie IMO, and I think Giroux had a better season than Rinne anyway. If it was Quick that would be one thing but Giroux should win this.

I don't refuse to vote for Giroux just because he's on the Flyers.

Why does it make more sense? Goalie is the most important position in hockey, IMO and there's been a forward on the cover for the past 3 years.

Both players deserve it, I just think a goalie should be on the cover.

It's an NHL game, it just does... I don't relly have a reason.

I guess they want to advertise a single player, and it's easier to do that with a skater.

I think he's just saying that a skater non-fans might recognize them on an off chance, or be a little more interested in who they are. If nothing else at least you can see their face. Not like it matters anyways. I don't think the cover really means anything at all. No one's buying or not buying the game solely because of it, and I don't see it swaying anyone either. I think at this point it's just for publicity every year as the game approaches release, regardless of who ends up on the front of the box.

The fans have Spoken, validating Coach Ravioliette: Giroux is the best in the world.

What? The last time a goalie was used on the cover was in NHL 97. A goalie is all covered up, whereas a skater is much easier to recognize. Joe Mauer was on the MLB The Show cover twice, but neither time in his catching gear.

well he spends a lot of time not in his catcher's equipment as well. Let me guess, it was him hitting? Goalies are always playing in their gear.

But I agree with you. They don't use goalies often because you can't tie a "face" to the game. I'm sure to non hockey fans and people who are maybe only interested in the game, all goalies look pretty much the same. Where as with a player, you can see his eyes, mouth etc.

Funnily enough NHL 97 is one of the most memoriable covers, outside Lemieux

No it isn't, it's just as bad and easily exploited. Feel free to add me to live 'shizno' and I will show you first hand how bad NHL 10/11/12 are

Reportedly, Giroux is right around 1 percent above Rinne right now.

Need you guys for the final push, don't let a Flyer win this...vote until your fingers fall off, it ends tonight!!!

Multiple votes cast for the Rinne-a-tor (most awkward nickname ever). I am done with this thread and soon the thread will be done with itself.
