Carl Gunnarsson

Just wondering. He's been Toronto's most dependable D-man for the past few years; very well-rounded. Just wondering what we could fetch (forward-wise) for him?

What is the deal with Cole? Don't know a lot about him.

But I think I'd rather do Gunnarsson for Stewart straight up.

I'd also like if we could includ Della Rovere in the trade.

Sharks fans seem happy to give Ryane Clowe for him.

I'd do this. I'm a big Clowe fan and he's a very good fit for the Leafs.

Would a team give up a top 10 pick?

To underrated to fetch true value imo and why do you want to trade our most dependable dman by far? Seems like you understand good players not making mistakes=wins usually

This year is really deep in defensemen so I highly doubt that would happen.

I love Gunnar and feel he's our most consistent d-man but I'd do this trade because we need size and grit in our forwards more than we need defense.

Just curious though, a while ago alot of Shark fans didn't want to trade Clowe but now he's often available. I haven't seen a lot of Shark games this year so what happened? Did he have a horrible playoffs?

We need speed in the top-6, and Clowe is the slowest and most expendable. That's why you see all sorts of proposals for him from Sharks fans. He's still a quality top-6 player, he's still got tons of intangibles, and he's still a hard worker.

Doubt it. Lot of good D in the top 10. I'm sure most teams would rather pick them, and hope they develop into something quite a bit better than Gunnerson

I think he could be a central piece if Toronto were to acquire CLB's pick.

TOR: CLB 1st

CLB: Carl Gunnarson, Nazem Kadri, Ben Scrivens, TOR 2nd.

yea.. a top 3/4 (on a great team) defenseman as the centerpiece in a deal for the 2nd overall pick.

give your head a shake!

What's up with Sharks fans wanting Clowe out of town? Last year the guy was untouchable unless for a big overpayment (classic HF saying).

Is his style of play finally catching up to him?

Edit: NVM, just read above.

I think Clowe has been a good player but I feel he is like a poor man's Kevin Stevens. He excelled with Pens playing with Lemieux and Francis as his centers but then moved to Boston and struggled.
Clowe has benefitted by playing with Thornton, Marleau and Couture. He also plays a physical game and has a lot of miles on him; more than his age would indicate. Combine that with his cap hit and his trade value is relatively low.

You will not find a single Jackets fan to agree with you. We have five top-4 defensemen at present (JMFJ, Tyutin, Wisniewski, Nikitin, Methot) and two more probable eventual top-4s waiting in the system (Moore and Savard). Gunnarson's nice but doesn't add anything extra to that.

Our blueline was a mess this year due to injuries and late midseason acquisitions (two of those top-4 guys weren't in union blue at the start of the season, for example), not due to lack of talent - indeed, despite the names on our roster there was absolutely* no point in the entire season where we had at least four top-4 capable guys all healthy and playing at once. While we arguably lack a true #1D (or someone who can shut down like a #1D should), Gunnarson isn't going to fill that role.

*: No, really. We started with Wiz, Tyutin, Methot, and Martinek, and by the time Wiz was back from suspension Martinek was done for the year, and injury timing thereafter was simply abysmal. We started 14 (one-four, fourteen) different defensemen on the roster this year - Wiz, Tyutin, Methot, Martinek, KRussell, Clitsome, Moore, Aaron Johnson, Nikitin, Brett Lebda, David Savard, Cody Goloubef, Dalton Prout, JMFJ.

ya him and Clowe play a similar roll so either or work..

god I wish St. Louis was willing to move one of their goalies.. but I think they enjoy their goalie tandem and having them both signed for 2 more years means they can sit back and laugh.

I think Clowe/SJ are a better trade partner.. they could really use the Defensive help.

St. Louis' defense is stingy

a deal for Stewart likely would involve offensive return.

dont really want Stewart straight up for Gunnas... i'd take Clowe over him if they both were offered

how about something like Gunnarsson + pick for Stewart + Sobotka ?

As has been stated before in a Value of Gunnar thread, he's worth more to the Leafs than any other team would be willing to pay. Better off trading Schenn. Much better off.

good! I would much rather deal Shenn for that very reason.. He's got the most value of players were open to moving.

Clowe never ever ever plays with Thornton, and rarely with Marleau. Not even on the PP. Come on.

Mod edit - Sharks were 6th in the league in GAA at even strength.
