I think it was that Carter banged Hartnell, who he thought was his wife.

If it was Hartnell's wife I'm sure she was looking for upgrade. She had to marry him because of money because the dude is butt ugly.

Don't know if it was 'proven' if your talking in the OJ wasn't 'proven' guilty sense. That said, I've got some relatives in Philly, and, yes, that was the word . . . that Carter banged Hartnell's wife.

I don't buy it. Jeff Carter can get any piece of ass his heart would desire in the tri-state area.. why would he jeopardize his team and his career by banging a teammate's wife?

And if he did, why would that 'split' the locker room? I'd like to think they'd unanimously be on Hartnell's side.

i dont think thats what split the lockerroom.

the "split" (at least the one i'm referring to) happened after pronger came to town. vets like briere and hartnell sided with pronger, while carter and richards allegedly formed their own little clique, and were disrespectful to support staff and also didn't buy into what laviolette was trying to instill.

Back on the offseason discussion:

What about Andrei Kostitsyn this offseason? I still think his game fits here well and the chances that he re-signs in Nashville might have dropped after the curfew incident.

I don't want his attitude around this team.

No way.

A few of us thought he could be a reclamation project on our team, myself included, but I see now that would have been a grave mistake. Not that our season didn't end in disaster regardless, but still.

Fair enough, figured I would see how people felt about him. Do you guys think he'll be KHL bound this summer?

I think he burned his NHL bridges by being a moron, and that's exactly what he'll do.

I say we go young...

Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Tangradi-Crosby-Dupuis
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Prust-Vitale-Tootoo
Adams, Sill

Letang-Orpik
Michalek-Despres
Strait-Engelland
Bortuzzo

Fleury
Hedberg

That's what I'm hoping for next year. Then if Tangradi doesn't get it done we should have a little wiggle room with the cap.

Deadline targets/Guys how will be UFA in 2013 that are on teams that might struggle again next year.
Iginla, Morrow, Ryder, Purcell, Lombardi, Roy

Sill-Vitale-Adams

Orpik-Letang
Despres-Michalek
Niskanen-Engelland

*Lineup subject to change.

Pens trade Martin, replace him with Despres.

Uncertainty with Jordan Staal.

Pens give a 4th line spot to Sill instead of Asham (even though I'm an Asham fan)

Give Tangradi time with Malkin, seems like a player that would play well with him. Scored his 1st and only NHL goal on a line with Malkin and Letestu

I looked up the situation, and by every account, both Hartnell and Carter came out and said it was not true. The original rumor was cited by a student at Temple University, and said that they got the information from an unnamed member of Philly's staff.

Hartnell stated that he and his wife were having problems well before this rumor even came out, and some associated the two events with each other, and they were two completely separate things.

I think Sill is a darkhorse to make this roster, but very well could. He brings something that we could use.

Has he? I haven't seen him play so I was asking. I just saw he wasn't much of a scorer so I wasn't even sure what type of player he was.

Sill's PK in the playoffs has been really good. He has a knack for reading plays.

The Pens seem to really like him from those post camp talks too.

Til has it right the rift in the Flyers locker room was Pronger vs Carter and Richards. I also heard that Pronger was trying to keep them off team Canada.

I really hope Shero, DB and most of all Mario saw how the team that dismantled them won one game against the Devils. The Devils aren't boring or overly defensive. The player with the puck seems to have offensive freedom but there's structure around that player giving him options. Thats a team that manages the puck well and creates offense from the defensive zone, thats a team that doesn't just shoot to take a shot and thats a team that understand when/ how to dump and chase.

Another thing is that Marty almost never has to go post to post to make save. He just becomes a wall and the Devils funnel shots into him.

He had a good training camp, one of the last cuts IIRC. Haven't watched him over the season, but if he's improved since then...

They do like him, and we need more guys like him in our bottom 6. I said before, that bottom 6 of ours lacked some heart and fire. We missed Talbot and Rupp type guys who could change the tides of a shift, even without scoring. I think Sill has some of those qualities.

A simplistic finger to point at why we lost could be pointed at goaltending and defense. I think the real reason is horrendous puck management, and discipline. The Flyers PP lit us up, yet we continued all series long to take dumb penalty after dumb penalty, and to get suckered into their head games. That made us think about everything aside from hockey. It's funny because that's the **** we used to do to them. Hartnell used to go off the ****ing deep end every single year. He wouldn't even pay attention to the puck as series waned on.

And in regards to puck possession...we had some forehand smacking giveaways. Giveaways that gave the Flyers glorious odd man chances. We also played boneheaded hockey in the defensive zone. That Voracek OT goal was the Flyers series in a nutshell. A Norris contending defenseman and a Selke contending forward standing in front watching the play as Voracek snuck back door for an easy tap in. That's how the series went.

Potential Salary Roll-Back

We cannot forget, there is a possibility of a roll-back to salaries to bring the revenues in line with a 50% or 51% split. The potential for a roll-back could be the main reason why we don't see Sid & Staal signing extensions until the CBA is completed.

Here is an example of what our payroll would look like with a 5% roll-back (a conservative, but realistic number, IMO)

Projected Pens Payroll 2012-2013 -- with 5% salary roll-back

Forwards: (roll-back salary)

Sidney Crosby --- 8,265,000
Evgeni Malkin --- 8,265,000
James Neal --- 4,750,000
Jordan Staal --- 3,800,000
Chris Kunitz --- 3,562,500
Tyler Kennedy --- 1,900,000
Matt Cooke --- 1,710,000
Pascal Dupuis --- 1,425,000
Craig Adams --- 641,250
Dustin Jeffrey --- 546,250
Joe Vitale --- 522,500
Eric Tangradi --- RFA

Defense:

Paul Martin --- 4,750,000
Zbynek Michalek --- 3,800,000
Kris Letang --- 3,325,000
Brooks Orpik --- 3,562,500
Simon Despres --- 798,000
Deryk Engelland --- 536,750
Matt Niskanen --- RFA
Robert Bortuzzo --- RFA
Brian Strait --- RFA

Goalies:

Marc-Andre Fleury --- 4,750,000
Brent Johnson --- UFA
