Giants split two in Prince George, winning 4-2 on Friday, followed by a 2-1 loss on Saturday, which ended their five game winning streak, and prevented them from moving into a tie with Victoria. Their awful road record now stands at 1-6.
Almost at the halfway point, Giants sit 4th in the Western Conference with 40 points. More importantly they're 14 points up on Victoria. Have to admit, I'm surprised where we are in the standings. Bringing in goalie Adam Morrison has been huge, as well as the play from Gallagher and Tvrdon.
Finally going to my first game this season on Friday, vs Portland. Giants annual Teddy Bear Toss, so should be a good size crowd.
How many bears did they get? We went to Calgary vs Medicine Hat on 04DEC. 16 000 + fans and over 25 000 bears. It's cool to watch. Going to Edmonton's next Saturday vs Calgary. I want to see how that compares as well.
I'll try and find a total number, but it took a good 15 minutes to get them cleared off the ice. I was able to go to the bathroom, get a beer and finish it before the faceoff.
Hiya Giants fans!
Just saw that you did get Alexander Kuvaev over afterall.
I tuned into a lot of Hurricanes games last year via the internet, and thought he was great---and was quite perplexed that Lethbridge went sour on him.
Would love to hear how he fares...I am especially intrigued at the thought of him and the other big Euro Tvrdon being a real handfull.
Please do, let me know what you think.
Giants trade captain James Henry to Moose Jaw, in exchange for 2nd round (2012) and 3rd round (2014) picks in the Bantam draft.
Kind of a WTF trade if you ask me. I know the Giants are trying to load up in the Bantam drafts while still staying competitive, and quite frankly, I'm impressed they snagged a 2nd and 3rd. At the same time though, we're in good shape to clinch home ice, for the first round at least, and have proven to be competitive vs. the likes of Kamloops and Portland.
Tonight, Brendan Gallagher set a new Giants record for career goals with 127, breaking the record set by Adam Courchaine. He now trails Courchaine by 4 points for overall points.
Neil Manning also set a new Giants record by playing in his 296th with the Giants, surpassing Craig Cunningham. He's also on pace for his 3rd consecutive 50 point season.
The Vancouver Giants Hockey Club is excited to announce that they have entered into a partnership with TEAM Radio that will see Giants regular season and playoff games, both home and road, aired on TEAM 1040 and TEAM 1410 beginning this fall. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the Giants, as TEAM 1040 was the club’s original broadcast home back in their inaugural season of 2001/02 and 2002/03.
The Giants join the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, the CFL’s BC Lions, MLS’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the NWL’s Vancouver Canadians on TEAM Radio, meaning every major sports franchise in Vancouver now calls TEAM Radio home. The partnership will see TEAM Radio be the voice of the Vancouver Giants through the completion of the 2013/14 season, and will offer Giants fans a full 30-minute pre- and post-game show as part of each broadcast.
“It’s great to have the Giants back on TEAM Radio, the premier hockey and sports stations in Vancouver”, says Giants Majority Owner Ron Toigo. “We look forward to working with everyone there showcasing the NHL stars of tomorrow as we work towards another Memorial Cup.”
James Stuart, Vice President & General Manager for TEAM Radio adds: “We are thoroughly excited to welcome the Vancouver Giants and elite junior hockey to the roster of play-by-play action on TEAM Radio. We look forward to being with them every step of the way on their march to the Memorial Cup.”
Further announcements, including the naming of Play-By-Play and Colour Commentators, will come over the course of the summer.
------------------------
Thank God. Nothing could have been worse than what they had before (650 CISL). And since they're part of the Team family again, it will hopefully get them talked about more throughout the day.
Only thing left to do is get Joey Kenward back doing the play by play.

NICE! Now I don't have to switch over to 650 every game. TEAM is gonna be hella busy.
