Roster Talk '12 — Germany

Since nobody started it yet my fellow Germans, I thought i'd do it myself then...

Any suggestions? Still hoping that Ehrhoff will be healthy as he said that he would join the team then, while Sulzer declined for personal reasons.

I would love to see Goc and Greiss, Holzer and Müller play, but San Jose might have a good run this year, and I don't know about the Panthers and the Marlies.

Still i'll give it a shot:

Forwards:
Tripp
Gogulla
Hospelt
Olver
Greilinger
Schütz
Reimer
Rankel
Wolf
Flaake
Hager
Mauer
(Goc, Müller)

Defense:
Hördler
Schubert
N. Goc
Braun
Reiss
Lavallee
Fischer (?)
(Holzer, Ehrhoff, Krüger, Seidenberg (very unlikely))

What about our guys in the CHL? Any chance of them making the team?

So Ehrhoff is not an option. Holzer and Mueller (definitely) and Krueger (maybe) will be playing in the AHL playoffs, and thus might not join the team at all or at least not for a while.

I doubt that any of the CHL guys are even on the radar. And I don't think that even guys like Kuhnhackl, Rieder or Abeltshauser could really help this team.

Well the Charlotte Checkers didn't get into the playoffs, so we will see if Justin Krueger will play for Germany.

I would say it is likely. He has been playing on the 1st PP unit during the warmup games + 3rd line center.

So we'll probably ice not a single NA player while other teams maybe bring their best rosters since Vancouver?
Well i'm up to the challenge, and hoping we won't play against relegation.

Michael Wolf won't be playing due to a foot injury and like zecke26 said earlier Krueger will join the team after the games this weekend.

Thanks for all the updates btw

I think we'll get stuck somewhere in the middle this year, with the new format, we might even get a shot at playing in the "playoffs" after the preliminary round. We have Italy, Norway, Denmark and Latvia in our group, which are difficult to play against, but possible to beat though.

Anything on Greiss? I mean St. Louis leads the series 3-1, and San Jose might get eliminated soon.

No problem for the updates.

Italy and Norway should be no problem, but Denmark should be a goalie battle with Frederik Andersen playing for them again this year.

I have not heard anything about Greiss for a few weeks. The last time he was mentioned in an article it was only to say that they would talk to him and Zepp once they were knocked out of the playoffs. I would think the Sharks wouldn't have a problem with it since he only played in 19 games this season.

Update on Greiss

Quote:

Basically it is still open if he will come over to play for Germany in the WC.

Greiss hasn't had any contact with Head Coach Jakob Kölliker. He would be happy about a phone call from him. He was last in net for the Germans at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

We have a lot of good goalies, but Greiss in the net would be awesome, hopefully Kölliker calls him, the games he played this season were great an made me wonder why he didn't see more icetime in SJ.

just dreaming a bit, but what about Seidenberg?

It would be great to have Greiss since Germany is always splitting the time for goalies. I think it would look like this with Greiss.

Greiss
Endras
Pätzold/Zepp

If Greiss comes I would rather have a young goalie like Treutle come in as the #3 though.

Seidenberg is a small chance. Boston still has a chance as of now and he has played a ton of games the last two seasons (almost 200) + he knows he is a lock for the Olympics.

EDIT: I see that Maverick answered my question few posts above

I agree with Maverick that they are probably not on the radar, but I would at least put Rieder on the roster if his team is eliminated and let him play some minutes against Italy and Norway. He has dominated the OHL playoffs and should get rewarded for it.

Just saw this tweet about the Kitchener game.

Kitchener Rangers ‏ @OHLRangers
Tobias Rieder scores 2 SHG in :39 seconds and the Rangers are up 3-2 at the halfway point. #ourhouse #gorangersgo

Updates

Eduard Lewandowski injured his knee and will be out at least a few weeks. Won't play in the WC.

Greiss will be contacted and has shown interest in playing for Germany at the WC.

I would love to see Rieder on the roster, at least for a friendly, I just have a hard time believing that it will happen.

Would be very interesting though to see how a player who is really strong in the OHL does compared to players from the DEL.

But it would be very atypical for a German team to put someone like him on the roster. And one thing that would worry me is how much Rieder would have left in his tank after this season.

Holzer and Mueller have advanced to the second round of the OHL Playoffs.
Mueller who had missed the first two games against Rochester played last night.
The way the Marlies are playing I don't think we should expect these guys on the roster for Team Germany.

I'm not a DEL expert so who can we expect from Mannheim and Berlin to be in the roster?

Btw. It would be shame if we didn't see Holzer next year in the NHL.

I read 6-8 players from the combined teams are getting looked at. This is just my speculation

Berlin
G - Rob Zepp (Depends on Thomas Greiss)
D - Constantin Braun
D - Frank Hördler
F - Florian Busch
F - Darin Olver
F - André Rankel (Already on team)

Mannheim
D - Nikolai Goc
D - Denis Reul
F - Marcus Kink
F - Frank Mauer
F - Christoph Ullmann

I would agree. I don't think it should be expected to get either. The series are now 7 games in the AHL playoffs.

Florida could also move on tonight, which would take any chance of Goc coming for most of the games. I don't think Sturm will come either way.
