He's tearing it up, but he's tied with a guy from Norway who has played one less game than him. Of course the WC's are easier.
That "guy from Norway", Patrick Thoresen, has been one of the KHL's best players the last couple of seasons, and was selected as a forward for the WC All Star team, with Malkin and Zetterberg. Even though he didn't manage to establish himself in the NHL with the Oilers and the Flyers, given the right circumstances he would be a good NHL-player.
Of course the WC's are easier, but it's a quality tournament, and the look on Malkins face after the game showed just what it meant to him. Too bad no other Penguins took this great oppotunity to end the season on a high...

I dunno. great for Geno. however that trip into the boards when it first happened and the way he reacted it I thought OMG he just broke his wrist.
These tourneys there is always the odd guy here and there that gets a fairly decent injury, and knowing our luck I for one was glad that Crosby declined to go.
Anyway, Ovechkin is an idiot. I was watching the celebrating after the game and I am so glad we have Malkin and not Ovechkin. Ovechkin is just always about him. He puts the flag on and is always in everyone's face. Geno, Dats, and a few other players were posing for a picture and Ovy jumps in the background with that stupid grin. I'm sure I'm making too much of it, but he just always needs to be the center of attention. Geno dominated the tournament and he humbly takes the MVP trophy and skates it to the bench.

Good thing they are focusing on the offseason and getting better for next year, both in terms of health and on ice play.

Who was the russian D on that first goal? Orlov? Whoever it was, that was a silky slick one-touch pass back to Geno for the tap in.

also the Kharlamov Trophy - award given to the most valuable Russian NHL player.
So he's the only other player to win the Art Ross and lead the World Championship in scoring. Gretzky ended up with Bronze and wasn't given the Top Forward award. Makes you wonder where this season ranks among players who DID NOT win the Stanley Cup?

Talk about meaningless, invented accolades. Are these real things or did you just say them yourself?
I'm all for showering Geno with high praise but let's not get carried away. Else maybe we should give him the
World Championship Smoothest Skater
World Championship Most 3rd Period Goals
World Championship Most 2nd Period Goals
World Championship Most 1st Period Goals
World Championship Most goals following an assist in the same period
World Championship Most goals without breaking a stick
World Championship Most goals with white tape

thats pretty much what the russian press said about Ovy too "we have witnessed what ovechkin is all about once again, he is all about being an attention wh*** and a huge ego on the ice".
Semin and Ovy should not have joined the team. Semin's skills are very questionable and Ovy does not add that much to have his ego around.

I'd rather have Terrell Owens on the Penguins than Semin.

Too bad Semin's such an underperforming malcontent, because a RH goal-scoring winger with a laser shot is exactly what we need.
It's weird because I don't want him, but if the pens signed him at a reasonable number, I wouldn't sit around and *****. Truth is I'd be kind of excited to see what he could do...that's after the fact though. Right now I want no part of him.

Same here, not his biggest fan but say he signs a Hossa type deal 1 year at 4-4.5 I wouldn't be mad. He did show some good things in the post season. Anyways I doubt it happens
