Hope for the best . . .

BTW, Malkin to Kulemin does have a nice ring to it, no? Hope Ray and Dan notice the chemistry . . .

I don't think this board fully appreciates what those two would be able to do here. He's tailor made for Geno. Longterm linemate.

Hello KIRK! Nice to see you again

Both Malkin and the coach said everything is fine now, so, yup, hopefully.

Kulemin isn't Malkin's regular line mate right now, but the coach has been mixing things up a bit here and there. The few shifts they've had together have looked good. Having Kulemin in Pen's sweater would mean that either Kunitz or Neal could be moved to Sid's line. He's RFA this year, wonder what he'll get? And/or what it it would take to get his rights?

Staal . . .

Seriously, a deal probably is workable.

Hmmm . . . a 1st for Kulemin (yeah, risk averse Ray won't do it), TK and Martin for Malone . . . that's a cap wash.

Kunitz-Sid-Neal
Malone-Malkin-Kulemin

Hmmm . . . Cooke, Bennett, something (who knows what) for Stewart

Tangradi-Staal-Stewart

It would mean relying on the kids on the blueline, but THAT would be called taking the three center model and putting wingers out there who enhance it rather than neutralize it.

Staal for Kulemin is something that works for both parties I think.

Malkin had 2 points today. 5 points in 2 games so far.

I'd be concerned if he didn't have those kind of numbers against Normay and Latvija.

He's an NHL superstar on there. He's been good.

Shrimper, much as I'd love to have Kulemin on the Pens, Staal for Kulemin doesn't work. Maybe next summer, when we're talking Staal's rights, it works. BUT, this summer or any time before next summer, it doesn't work. IMO, if Brian Burke comes calling after the finals, then it's going to take Kulemin, Schenn, and the 5th overall just to get Shero's attention.

Peter Hamerlik is on the Slovak national team? That's a name that takes me back, and I never thought I'd see that.

I remember when he was here at training camp, back when we used to do that four team intra-squad tournament. His save percentage was something like .625. Then he got pissed at the organization for some reason and refused to sign with us, going to Boston as a re-entry pick. I assumed he wasn't playing hockey anymore, at least not at a high level, given his horrendously short minor league career.

He already has a tailor-made linemate. He scored 40G this year. Although I sure as hell wouldn't complain about this first two lines:

Kulemin - Malkin - Neal (deadly - probably looking at 125G)
Kunitz - Sid - Dupuis (100G potential as a healthy line?)

Noted this in the other thread also: Kulemin for Staal straight up is underpayment to us. We ought to at least get another prospect or draft pick out of that.

[Anyway, back to the empty arena worlds discussion...]

He played his junior hockey in Kingston (my hometown). I remember him as a solid, but nothing special goalie even in junior. The hometown play-by-play announcer gave him the nickname "The Slovakian Wall", I'm assuming as a play on Khabibulin's "Bulin Wall".

Is he playing with Kulemin? If so, a report would be nice for those of us who can't watch . . .

BTW, was it a real point or a secondary assist?

It was a secondary assist:

Quote:
19:51 1 - 0 EQ RUS 93. ZHERDEV Nikolai
(82. MEDVEDEV Yevgeni)
(11. MALKIN Yevgeni)

No he's not playing with Kulemin. He's playing with Pergozhin (sp?) and Popov.

Guess we'll have to wait for the Staal trade then.

Malkin with a 61.36 FO% so far ...

Now, when he starts training in the off-season, he needs to make sure he works with other players who will clutch, grab and hang off of him so that he can adjust his game And maybe a meditation coach. He did a lot better this year, but he could still do a little better ...
