To be fair, Eller's shot was tipped in off the skate of Nikulin (the Russian Captain).
No worries, though, since Russia won 3-1.

Yea, but imagine if they ever get Geno a guy like James Neal. That would just be sick.

Imagine if they could get someone that can work the boards, give and go's, and drive the net with consistency with Geno. All while giving Neal some more time and space as more of a pure shooter on a line.

I would be down with that. Maybe I read it wrong, but I thought that turned into a 1 for 1 trade. If not, my bad.

Yea, but I mean we already got about the best linemate possible for him. We shouldn't be so greedy. Or should we???

That was just one person who suggested that.

Me . . . I've been saying all along that the price for Staal from Shero will be a Mike Richards return plus a premium. Shero doesn't do 'fair'. He hedges and errs on the side of caution. That's why he rebuffed Rutherford's offer of Jack Johnson for the 2nd overall at the 2006 draft and countered by asking for Andrew Ladd and Johnson. When he's dealing a premium asset, he wants a return where he can't hedge.

A lot of us think that Kulemin plus the 5th overall is the Mike Richards type of return. The question is the premium. Some suggest Schenn. I suggested, for those who don't like Schenn, maybe Bozak + Ashton.

The point is, in the end, I see 4-8 teams offering a Mike Richards type of return (in terms of the value) and Shero squeezing from there for the premium.

I think someone steps up, probably Toronto. Otherwise, Shero will err on the side of caution, hold his nose, give Staal the low 6M deal it will take to keep him, and then deal with the fallout later.

1. Kulemin would be Malkin's Malone. In terms of mucking and battling on the boards, more consistently driving the net, and instinctively knowing when to support and when to step away, Kulemin's style is pretty much Malone without the 'edge' or 'snarl'. That would add a whole new dynamic for Malkin and Neal (of course, that's to argue why Kulemin as A piece, not THE piece, would be valuable).

2. That said, if we're moving Staal, then the goal should be to give Sid and Geno two good wingers each (and to hope that Bylsma uses them like Sutter uses Richards and Kopitar, something about which I have my doubts). Kulemin-Malkin-Neal would be as good as it gets. That lets you slide Kunitz up with Sid, where he's a more natural fit, and to focus on finding a RW for Sid (Stewart seems like a nice target . . . ).

3. Note that there are other deals. Someone asked if Minny would offer Seto, Coyle, and their top ten pick. As I said, you look at all the teams, and Shero selling Staal cheap should be the least of the worries.

Something tells me that Rutherford is taking note as well and won't be inclined to moving the kid.

He reminds me a lot of Shattenkirk.

Made the exact proposal yesterday in the Staal thread. Although I'd take any of McBain, Murphy, Faulk with Sutter and the 8th overall for Staal and Martin.

This is likely. Could mean that Murphy or McBain are becoming the more likely trade bait.

McBain or Murphy works too . . .

Key is moving Martin with Staal. Any team that will take Martin too has a leg up, all other things being equal. Carolina and Minnesota seem like the best options for that one.

EDIT: Odds that Bylsma puts McBain on the right goal line in the PP set up?

I am telling you that Toronto is the team. We really need a Defenseman like Schenn. They hate Schenn. They have a high draft pick. They need a centerman. Burke had a man crush on Paul Martin for the olympics.

If it was NHL he could've had 6 points tonight as he did make an assist on Russia's 4th goal, that IIHF never counted.

funny, the Swedes did their best to piss him off during the first period, to bring him off balance, needless to say they succeeded admirably.
