He's been playing really well. Very strong on the puck, still a few turnovers but mostly solid. The Russian coach is pretty defensive minded, and he's stepping up to Bill's (the coach) expectations.

He's also been keeping his cool pretty much. He took a slashing penalty today, but it was pretty much BS ... he was playing the puck in the paint, but play hadn't been whistled down ... someone in the thread nailed it by saying he was penalized for trying too hard. In the game against Sweden they (Sweden) were playing Philly style hockey and instead of knocking him off his game he went into beast mode with a 5 point game ... should have been six, really, since he should have gotten a secondary on one of the goals but didn't. He's been taking a lot of abuse, but it's only seeming to make him play stronger. He looks like he's finally adjusting to having the other teams guys hanging off of him or right on top of him, sticking to simple plays in those situations, way fewer turnovers.

He started out really well on faceoffs, that's dipped a bit but still above 50%. Had a puck bounce off his foot today, but seemed fine afterwards.

Czech Rep is more serious than Sweden?

Maybe I added todays goal twice. It's either 13 or 14 points, not that either is half bad.

They definitely had way more trouble with the Czechs today than they had with Sweden. Not saying Sweden isn't still a dark horse with the crowd behind them and all, but they weren't all that against Russia.

Haven't seen any of the games but based on the results and seeing the highlights those two have found some chemistry with Malkin.

Which makes me wonder, any chance either of those two KHL'ers might actually be serviceable on a line with Malkin on the Pen's? BMM (Beast Mode Malkin) has obviously carried the load, but they've made some nice plays as well. I'd imagine Perezhogin would be the more likely of the two since hes younger has put up better KHL numbers and Popov lacks size. Problem is Montreal still has his NHL rights.

Dmitry Chesnokov ‏ @dchesnokov
It looks like Malkin won't be the center for Ovechkin and Semin. The line will probably look Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Semin.

I'm guessing that will be the 2nd line? From what im hearing, Malkin is the reason they don't suck.

iltalehti.fi writes that pens are interested in singing finnish goalie Petri Vehanen to back-up Fleury and to play 20-25 games a season. Vehanen, 34 has been one of the best goalies in the khl last few seasons.

2011 World Championship gold
2008 World Championship bronze
KHL Championship 2010
KHL's the best goalie in 2009-2010
KHL's best Goals Against Average 2009-2010
KHL's best save percentage 2009-2010

He's probably going to play rest of the finland's games because Kari Lehtonen is injured.

That sounds promising. Theissen did not instill great confidence in me this season. In fact, I was wondering if the Penguins might be signing a veteran to replace Johnson (or resigning Johnson). Another Finnish guy came to my mind when thinking about that Niitamyki (sp?).
