Especially a hockey player. I've heard many hockey players talk about how just playing games causes them to lose a lot of weight.

How much did Big Buff(et) slim down over the season? A month into the regular season they were still shortening his shifts because of it. Still looked pretty thick to me at the end of the year, though not as heavy as he was at the start.

Laziness on their part.

Since the KHL season ended a while ago, it could be that he was just sitting around doing a lot of nothing since then.

Go watch the Ovechkin documentary...

Goes to a Russian McDonalds and literally orders two of everything. Spent like $60 US.

guess it's tough adjusting back to normal eating habits when you're not burning a ton of calories everyday.

If this Michalek rumors are true, I wonder if we should go after Semin then, we could easily afford that, if we don't take a big contract back for Michalek

...and what Michalek rumors would those be? The ones where he was not included in the end of season injury report? The ones where he just had hip surgery...oh wait...those are both true statements. Any rumors of Michalek being moved are a joke...no team is trading for a guy that just had two mediocre seasons, just had hip surgery, and carries a cap hit of $4 million for 3 more years. Perhaps he gets moved next summer, but no way this summer...Martin on the other hand...

4 million isn't bad for a shot blocking D-Man with a good first pass and big shot. He brings a lot to the table when used right. Bylsma just has to use him better. Probably starts with finding him a better partner than Martin. Some people like Niskanen for that role. I think Despres will be perfect next to him at some point though.

Fun fact of the day:

Slovak Defencemen Michal Sersen was drafted by the Penguins in 2004 at 130th overall. He played with Crosby in Rimouski for a year also. He reported to WBS in 2006 but failed to make the and returned home to play for HC Slovan Bratislava. We traded his rights to Tampa Bay in 2008.

Now he's patrolling the blueline with D-partner Zdeno Chára.

I haven't watched enough of Emelin to have an opinion on him. I've just heard the talk about his physical play.

Good hipchecker. Awful fighter (to the degree that he has metal plates holding his skull together from being pummeled by Alex Svitov after he ran somebody).

Konstantinov is a bad comparison. Emelin throws a nice hipcheck and his normal hits are through the target instead of this gutless "exploding up" BS that's somehow become accepted in the last five years (BIG plus in my book), but he doesn't have VK's puck skills or shot. More like a less antagonistic Kasparaitis.

Completely disagree. Emelin is a great long passer and pretty sneaky in the offensive zone. He doesn't have a huge shot but its not exactly Paul Martins.

Malkin with 2 more goals. I'm really hoping that Shero and Co are looking at who his wingers are.

Malkin fell and drove into the boards. Seems to have hurt his arm.

Great. Malkin falls awkwardly into boards, goes to tunnel favouring his left wrist. All for a nothing tournament.

Thanks, World Championships!

Thank Christ. I don't think I could handle another year where Sid or Geno wasn't ready to start the season.
