Shanahan is practicing his delivery right now. He will look serious, will convey an attitude of a man who understands the importance of his position, and then will pronounce no further action.
After all, such unbiased luminaries as Bruce Boudreau stated that Ovechkin was skating off, then all of a sudden a player appeared in front of him and he quickly reacted in a defensive manner.
I paraphrase, but something like that. That Depends diaper wearing PJ Stock said much the same thing.
Kelly Hrudey said that the NHL "has to look at it". At least one guy with brains and integrity on the CBC team.
No idea how he can say he was trying to kick the puck while simultaneously lining up Girardi for a head shot while leaving his feet in order to protect himself. Joke. Should be a suspension, will be nothing but a fine though.
it's clear he was targeting him (girardi's been ovi's target all series because he's everywhere ovi wants to be)... i don't think this is going to get anything, but imo it should. ovi's a repeat offender. he makes extremely similar hits very often and clearly has not learned. at first i thought it was shoulder to shoulder but because ovi jumps he makes substantial contact with the head. he doesn't jump, he doesn't make contact with his head. simple as that.
i'm more concerned over cally getting tripped on that pp that lead to the gwg... he did get tripped right?
Most likely, he gets nothing. Small fine at most. I'm much more upset with the officiating. This wasn't that bad, although Ovechkin routinely leaves his skates and as such, at some point, needs to be made a bigger example of. It just won't be here and now.
I was just reading the main boards on the hit *pukes* and found this video:
So Shanahan has said himself (even in relation to Ovechkin), "Although (opposing player)'s shoulder may be the initial point of contact for this hit, the act of launching causes contact to (opposing player)'s head." And, "The moment Ovechkin launches himself into the air prior to the hit, he becomes responsible for any contact to the head."
Shanny, grow a pair and do what you know you should do.
