Ovechkin leaves feet to headshot Girardi

Spector: “Gotta think the #NYRangers seek supplemental discipline on that hit by Ovechkin. Replay definitely shows he left his feet for a high hit”

Brooks: “Ovechkin: a) leaves feet to deliver blow; b) hits Girardi in head; c) is repeat offender. Your move, Dep’t of Player Safety.”

Gross: "Ovechkin runs over Girardi, left his skates for the hit at 12:17 of the second period. Shoulder to Girardi's head. Ignored the puck"

Botta: "Brendan Shanahan said the criteria is clearly set. Ovechkin hit all criteria with a bullseye. Sunday will be interesting."

How will Shanny screw the pooch this time?

He'll get nothing... Sad, but true.

He skates right by the puck and launches himself at Girardi's head intentionally. But "Girardi didn't get injured" so there won't be a suspension. ********.

Stern warning to Girardi for being in the way.

Beautiful justice if he gets a 3 game suspension. I'd love to see him get 8-10.

But he did it against the Rangers, so, more than likely, $2500 fine in the works for Girardi.

Shanahan is practicing his delivery right now. He will look serious, will convey an attitude of a man who understands the importance of his position, and then will pronounce no further action.

After all, such unbiased luminaries as Bruce Boudreau stated that Ovechkin was skating off, then all of a sudden a player appeared in front of him and he quickly reacted in a defensive manner.
I paraphrase, but something like that. That Depends diaper wearing PJ Stock said much the same thing.
Kelly Hrudey said that the NHL "has to look at it". At least one guy with brains and integrity on the CBC team.

Milbury and Jones said since he would be a repeat offender, he would be suspended if they rule it a dirty hit.
Which means nothing will happen.

Have we talked about his excuse?

Stephen Whyno ‏ @SWhyno
Ovechkin on Girardi hit: "I just missed the puck. I tried to kick the puck and I saw he was coming, so I just got to protect myself."

LOL

I dont get these idiots like Jones and Boudreau who say its defensive hit. You dont leave your feet and aim for a players head when you are "defending yourself". What a load of bullsh*t.

That's why I am for Girardi sticking his elbow out when Ovechkin wants to go in for the hit.

Come on ladies and gents. Does anyone think the suits upstairs are taking Ovechkin out of a 2-2 series? The idea is laughable.

$2500 fine at the absolute best.

Great job, Shanadick.

Didn't Neil come up with the same BS excuse in game 3?

Sadly, Shanny actually believed him. Expect nothing.

No idea how he can say he was trying to kick the puck while simultaneously lining up Girardi for a head shot while leaving his feet in order to protect himself. Joke. Should be a suspension, will be nothing but a fine though.

Girardi would have gotten five and a game misconduct if he did that. Probably a suspension too.

Someone else said it, he's already been suspended for exactly that very same reason.

So, no fine; stern warning tomorrow.

it's clear he was targeting him (girardi's been ovi's target all series because he's everywhere ovi wants to be)... i don't think this is going to get anything, but imo it should. ovi's a repeat offender. he makes extremely similar hits very often and clearly has not learned. at first i thought it was shoulder to shoulder but because ovi jumps he makes substantial contact with the head. he doesn't jump, he doesn't make contact with his head. simple as that.

i'm more concerned over cally getting tripped on that pp that lead to the gwg... he did get tripped right?

Most likely, he gets nothing. Small fine at most. I'm much more upset with the officiating. This wasn't that bad, although Ovechkin routinely leaves his skates and as such, at some point, needs to be made a bigger example of. It just won't be here and now.

I was just reading the main boards on the hit *pukes* and found this video:

So Shanahan has said himself (even in relation to Ovechkin), "Although (opposing player)'s shoulder may be the initial point of contact for this hit, the act of launching causes contact to (opposing player)'s head." And, "The moment Ovechkin launches himself into the air prior to the hit, he becomes responsible for any contact to the head."

Shanny, grow a pair and do what you know you should do.

Only if Ovenchicken gets a concussion.

A broken jaw, I'm guessing 3 games, at most.
