Me too considering the President of the Edmonton Oilers stated that the are going to take whoever they feel is the BPA at #1 regardless of team need. It's in the interview Portzline posted on twitter.

Especially when he words it like this.

Quote:
In terms of the pick (no.1) there's been lots of discussions from our fans and followers that suggest we're going to draft a defenceman because that appears to be our need but we've instructed Stu McGregor to select the best player in the draft and that's who we're going to pick
Its Yakupov.

I know that, my point was that you just seemed to contradict yourself in the little blurbs I quoted, that's all. You implied that it doesn't seem we have much interest in Galchenyuk, someone else said that we allegedly didn't have much interest in Johan at the time even though he's who we ended up picking, and you blew that off saying how that's worked out well for us, sarcastically it seems. Just doesn't make sense, other than simply being negative to be negative.

All public pronoucements at this point in time should be taken with an entire spoonful of salt. Nobody is saying what they are really thinking. Attempting to read anything into statements right now is akin to trying to catch the wind.

The first thing I thought of when I read this was Jake Voracek all over again.

Tyler says this isn't a guy you take with the thinking he's going to come in immediately and help out, but what happens if a player is there that can? Especially for this team.

There will not be a cheaper option to acquire top six scoring this offseason for the CBJ then to draft Yakupov, or, if he's ready, Galchenyuk. In fact, if the price for trading up with Edmonton is swapping picks plus a defenseman (methot), we are still coming out ahead.

I have a bad feeling that the CBJ are really trying to "overthink" this puppy.

The problem with Jake when he added weight it was all beer, chocolate shakes and donuts.....not muscle. Johansen's frame is bigger too. I like that sounds of him gaining some weight. I'm hoping he gains the full compete mode too.

The entire team went down the crapper. It wasn't just Johansen.

This is the sort of progress you look for in a kid. If he gains strength, he will be a more effective player. I know Ryan from his days in junior, and he's a competitor. My guess is he comes back this year and scores 40+ points, and becomes a young leader on this team.

It makes zero sense for the Jackets to swap picks with Edmonton. I like the idea of calling their bluff - it's Yakupov or Murray; you want Murray, you take him at #1. Why should we give up assets because they won a weighted lottery?

If it would be Methot plus swapping the picks only, I'd do it. Methot's contract will make him difficult to move next season, especially if he's playing the role we think he will be, 7th defenseman.

Or he could be saying that, so when they don't take Yakupov, they can say they didn't draft based on need. They drafted who THEY thought was the BPA.

Oh man, if he's available at #2 the neighbors will probably come running over to see what all the screaming is about.

I can't BELIEVE I have to work Friday night and didn't think to request it off ahead of time. I'm going to have to do something about this ASAP.

Count me in the not buying it camp regarding Edmonton.

I'd be shocked if they didn't take Nail. Pleasantly shocked, but shocked.

I'd be shocked if Columbus didn't take Nail. Unpleasantly shocked.

Haha, same with me. If Yakupov is off the board at #2, I'd like to see them pick Galchenyuk (see last page), but if they don't wish to pick him, I'm really torn between Murray and Forsberg. I think Murray is the definition of a "safe" pick in the sense, that he'll either be an upper-echelon D-man that sets the world on fire, or just a "solid", but not "elite" player that evolves into a reliable #2 (think roughly a Dennis Seidenberg impact from an overall quality standpoint, although they're obviously two different players), who does the little things to help your team. I think he can become atleast a #2 PP Unit QB; probably not the offensive skills of a Doughty or a Pietrangelo, but perhaps a little bit more so than say, a Jack Johnson. Murray is a team-first guy, and I think he could wind up as a Captain one day.

Forsberg, I think will definitely be a quality player, and a "safe" pick as well, although I don't think quite as "safe" as Murray. To put it simply, while you won't have to question his effort and compete level on a nightly basis, he could either wind up as an elite superstar that scores 40-50 goals (I really don't think a Corey Perry comparison, which guys at TSN, most notably Craig Button, have constantly thrown out there), or just a "good" (not "solid" as is the case with Murray) 2nd line-type player that will give you 50-60 points, kill penalties, and will be able to play a ton of places on the powerplay.

What do you guys think?

If Edmonton passes on him, I'll be pleasantly shocked.

If the CBJ then pass on him, I may throw up.

If Edmonton passes on Yak, I'll be doing cartwheels.

If Columbus passes on Yak, I'll be angry yet somehow not surprised.

Voracek was known in Halifax to eat burgers in the dressing room.
