To be fair he was terrible against the Czech Republic.
Doesn't make him a lost cause though.
Let us not forget that he was terrible at times last season in the NHL.
I hate the fact that younger d men have already passed him up.
Here's hoping he turns it all around and has a great 12-13.
Highly doubt it. He was our best defender last year and he's only 21.
How is that possible? Watching him in the WC:s made me want to throw myself in front of a moving minivan.

His hockey smarts is on par with the average fourth line goon. So many mistakes and constantly trying to do too much. He thinks he's Erik Karlsson when in fact he's Hal Gill.

Can you explain more about how some younger players have passed him up? I know there's players like Karlson and Fowler who have out pointed him but neither of them are considered great defensively. He can be very frustrating to watch sometimes but he also can make great plays. If he has another off year then maybe SY will have to think about what to do with him.

Karlsson, if you're willing to look past all the hype, has been below league average defensively but hides it through offensive production and o-zone possession time. Fowler looks retarded defensively on most nights right now, but has lots of room for improvement.

So if he's better than Karlson and Fowler defensively, and his offensive potential hasn't been reached yet why would you want those 2 over him? I wouldn't, it's much harder to find a #1 shut down D than a PMD. We have a defensive liability who can light up the score board in MAB but nobody even wants him on the team anymore. I hope Barbero can continue to be an offensive beast and improve his defensive zone skills, I think another year in the AHL wouldn't hurt.

I would take Karlsson, but not Fowler... anyway, Hedman is super young still, I hope he keeps developing
I think Hedman needs to have a reduced role on the club honestly. Bringing in someone that can fill that number 1 spot, and slot Hedman down to the second pair would help the team out tremendously and his career....Just my two cents.
Hedman's only 21...what do people expect? Especially from a defensemen. Most defenesemen break into the league around 24-25ish. The fact that he's able to play on the NHL level at 21 says enough about him right now. I think realistically he's a career #2 defensemen-and there's nothing wrong with that. Give him some time-he'll be a good one.
I do think he should be on the 2nd pairing for now, but the Lightning need to address the goaltending situation first.

They'e both Swedish and none of them play on a team I cheer for - where is the bias? You mean the one based on their actual performances?
No I think he meant the bias that you need to validate your previous Hedman bashings by using him as a scapegoat for Sweden's team failure at the WC this year.
