This was the season no one expected them to compete. No one expected them to be one win away from the ECF. Win or lose tonight ( obv, a win would be greatly preferred )...I can honestly say I am PROUD of this team. Do they have some needs that should be addressed? Sure..what team does not? Do Torts' line combos drive me nuts..well yeah, but the fact remains he IS the perfect coach for this team.
I've been saying this since we were down 3-2 to Ottawa. Proud of them no matter what. Need some scoring but they have heart, they're hard working and young.
No one expected 1st in the east. Few expected a win on the road in Ott and then a game 7 win aside from Ranger fans.
I mean it would be a blow if they lost tonight but they have gone further than they had in a while. This is a young team with a great goalie. All this team needs is one big ooffensive force and it could be fun the next few years. However they should be able to win since they were the 1 seed
The New York Rangers are the thing in my life that I can always count on being there.
No matter what, come October, they will be there. It has been this way for me for the last twenty two seasons. I'm certain many have been around longer or not quite as long, but feel the same. Sometimes the season that follows is one you would rather forget.
Not this one.
This team was "dead in the water" after game five against Ottawa. Now here they are, nine hours from a one game playoff for the right to enter round three.
If they will leave it all on the ice we will be posting in a GDT on Monday.
This. All I can ask is for them to leave it ALL out there! If they do, I feel they will win--but even if they don't, I will not hang my head because these boys have grinded all season. Very, very proud.
Great thread and co-signed. This season was an awesome surprise.
I think that the success this season was a year ahead of schedule. Regardless of what happens tonite, the future is bright. It's a great contrast to the way things used to be done with this franchise. I have to give Sather and Co. (especially Gordie Clark and Jeff Gorton) tons of credit for building the prospect base into one of the best in hockey.
We have a great, young team that has not yet peaked. Lots to look forward to.
But we're not done yet! In a one-game series, anything can happen, go out and whip the caps!

Go get em.
Don't count on it this year. The CBA is going to be a serious obstacle. I'll be surprised if the NHL resumes in October.
Idk, maybe I'm the only one that feels this way, but when your team finishes first in the conference and dominates all year long... its kind of a disappointment losing to the 7th seed.
edit: I understand that they've surpassed all our expectations coming into the season, but when they set the bar that high then it is disheartening when they lose.

Thats true. I also feel that this series could have been over. I like torts but he hasnt had a great series and we seemed complacent in some games
a good season, but another game like 6 and my stomach will have a knot the size of rhode island for the next 6 weeks at least.
we can do it, come on boys
The only thing im concerned about is the offense. I mean the Caps have made it difficult but if this team had just a little better offensive game we wouldnt lose much at all. I mean thagt 4 minute PP we had in game 6 was brutal

PP is the key, keep them off it...we should decline our PP's
Not winning more than one round in a season where Crosby was injured for 60 games and the Pens lost in the first round can't be considered anything other than disappointing, especially if the elimination comes at the hands of a lesser team (after an even worse team almost did the job in the first round, no less).
The reason I am confident about tonight is because this team has surprised us all season and won when we expected losses. With that said, tonight we win. Slay the demons. If we don't, I'll be sick the next few weeks about how hey could have won it all by winning one game. Male this the 86 Mets, not the 06 Mets.
Either way 100% agree. A proud rangers team to follow.

Give em hell, boys. We're proud of you.
I hear you and am also proud of this team BUT when the opportunity presents itself to have a game #7 in your building with the fans behind you, then you have to find a way to get it done tonite and move on the the conference finals otherwise it's more of the same mumbo jumbo bull****! No excuses tonite, just win baby!
