Who would you hire as Hawks next head coach?

Given CBCs speculation about Q possibly being asked to coach the Canadians, it got me thinking about who should be next.

Who do you think?

I'm gonna go off the board and say the best coach not in the NHL.

Ted Nolan

Haviland.

Has been with the organization since 2005 so there is no "getting to know you" period of dysfunction.
Has first hand knowledge of what has/hasn't worked in the last few years.
Has first hand knowledge about the strengths and weaknesses of the players already on the team.
Has been around the younger players who will be competiting for a spot next year.
Was the head coach at Norkfolk and Rockford when some of the current players where still in the AHL.
He's not a Q cronie and won't be hindered/attached to Q's beliefs about the players on the team.

Scotty Bowman.

I would say that Mike Haviland would get a serious look for the job.

and almost for all those reasons I believe Havi won't be hired unfortunately.

Kyle Beach. Led his kids team to a 12-1 record.

That's a .923 winning percentage!

IDK...a Mike Keenan type, though I know he's done coaching. More than anything, this team needs a serious kick in the rear IMO.

ps - I'll add another no vote for Haviland...the special teams needs to be overhauled, not kept on.

are there many other Disciplinarian coaches left in the league? Other than Tortorella and Carlyle, I can't think of any.

Or Hitchcock...but he's taken, and we don't want no trap crap here anyway.

Well bring Mike back out of retirement then. I know his last several stints went bad...but those teams all had very poor talent/depth. The Flames have been exposed as even worse since he left than when he was there.

I think "trap" is a strong word these days. Not sure there is anyone playing a pure trap anymore. I personally think this team would be awesome with a good system coach like Hitchcock, Trotz, or Tippet. Imagine if we played as good of a system as Phoenix on top of having the offensive firepower we have. We would have to be a cup favorite, assuming we could get even average goaltending.

Unfortunately, not sure who fits that mold that is currently available.

I actually think CBC has a disclaimer on any HockeyNight/CBC broadcast that says:

"The views and thoughts expressed by Glenn Healy do not represent those of the CBC and/or HockeyNight in Canada. We apologize for any blatantly stupid speculation.

Sincerely, CBC."

Seriously.. I don't know how anyone can take anything Healy says seriously. I highly, highly doubt Q will be coaching Montreal come October.

I think Crawford is the front runner for that Hab coaching job but the past relationship between Q and Bergevin is interesting. If there is any truth to Q and Stan having a strained relationship ……well ….…. anything is possible. But I think many of us would be shocked if Q bolted.

If it were to happen, any obvious replacement options seem to be quite limited. My short list would include Crawford, Keenan and Larry Robinson. Robinson likely doesn’t want the job ….. but Bubba is probably right about the Smith - Lewis combo being Stan’s first choice.

I've always liked Crawford, knows offense, innovative on PP. At least with him here, you don't have to worry about the PP, it will always be top 15 no matter what and likely top 10 with what the Hawks have offensively. I like Roy too, I feel like there wouldn't be any issues with people not showing up, also, he should be able to help the goalies. Other than that, not much out there.

I would be good with Havi as coach. I also really like Yeo.
