So to update a post I made earlier in the thread about staying in SF, Ariel Helwani said that the winner stays in SF for one more fight and then moves to the UFC. His idea was that since SF and M1 have a good relationship, it'd be Fedor vs Winner assuming Fedor wins his upcoming fight. I don't really see the UFC allowing this seeing as it's now their money that would be going to Fedor and he's going to demand a **** ton, which he really doesn't deserve anymore. Such a weird situation for the winner. You win a GP but there's no title and no one else even in the division to fight once you win but you have to fight one more fight with the company. My realistic prediction is that they scrap the whole winner fights one more time thing and just move them over to the UFC.

That won't happen. This was all known when they announced the tournament, it's not a new development. It was a request from Showtime that the winner have an extra fight when the grand prix finished

But the thing is is that who are they going to sign? I know that the whole idea was to have the winner fight after but there isn't even a HW division anymore. The only two guys in it are Barnett and Cormier. Doesn't it seem sort of pointless to move the whole division over to the UFC but then still hold a fight after the tourney is over? Plus, who do you sign?

I don't see what's too hard to figure out. The loser of Cormier/Barnett will jump into the UFC. The winner will get a fight later this year to keep Showtime happy. If Fedor signs for a reasonable amount, it could be him. If he won't, they'll sign virtually any other HW winning fights to go in and get steam-rolled by Cormier/Barnett, and then they'll move the champion over to the UFC.

Heavyweight Grand Prix Final bout: Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier
Lightweight Championship bout: Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson
Light Heavyweight bout: Rafael Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle
Welterweight bout: Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang

It is very tempting to pick Comrier in the main event as he is an olympic class wrestler who has showed an ever improving and dangerous stand up game while it feels like Barnett hasn't beaten a quality opponent in ages. It seems like a bad match up for Barnett as well as it will be tough for him to pull off his catch wrestling without taking an Olympian down. That said, Barnett's obvious skills, experience factor, and his superior weight, height and reach put him over the top for me.

Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier -- I don't think Barnett's takedowns are good enough to get Cormier into his world on the mat. I expect Cormier is going to be able to stuff any attempts and use his speed to outstrike Barnett en route to a win.
Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson -- This would be a tough fight for Thomson to win even if he were at 100%, which I doubt he is. Shame that the guy keeps getting injured.
Rafael Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle -- I remember Feijao looking decidedly unmotivated for his first fight with Kyle, not to take anything away from the victory. But I think he's the better technical fighter and is going to want to avenge that loss.
Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang

Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier -I think Cormier's wrestling will be enough to keep this fight standing and I don't see Barnett winning on the feet.
Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thomson - Pretty easy fight to pick IMO.
Rafael Cavalcante vs. Mike Kyle - I think Feijao has improved since their first fight and will want to get that loss back.
Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Chris Spang - No idea, but I think Burrell is a wrestler so I'll take him in a decision.

I was surprised to see Barnett only come in at 244.

Looking through Barnetts record, he hasn't faced an accomplished wrestler since Couture in 2002. I'm really looking forward to this fight.

Geez, looks like I missed a couple quick fights. How did Kyle get submitted so quickly? Got rocked and Feijao got his back?

Got caught very early with a nasty knee then Feijao sunk in a standing guillotine while he was wobbly

Ate a nasty knee and Feijao jumped on him for a hanging guillotine. Nice fight

Wow, will have to check that out later if they don't show a replay.

I feel bad for Mauro, he deserves better than being around all the chumps Showtime employs.

Thomsons best bet is to go for broke in the first round and get the finish. His body just isn't the same as it was a few years ago. He can't go 5 hard rounds like he did in their first fight.

Eh, I've never found Mauro all that appealing. Even in the Pride days he always came off as a dork. Give me Bas & Quadros any day

Yea, he just kind of seems like the king of the dorks to me.
