Zanon- Anyone catch this from the main board?

While reading the Marek Zidlicky thread on the main board... came across this:

"He was a terrible locker room guy (which I know gets said a lot here, but the Wild beat writer came out and said that many of the guys that have been traded/let go over the last 2 years has been due to them being problematic in the Locker room, Zanon apparently was another one of those"

No real point here. Just wondering why the Bruins would go for a guy with issues. Maybe it was the change of scenery thing. If he's the same in the Bruins locker room, might be an issue to consider before possibly resigning him.

I can't lie, I was secretly hoping the Bruins would make an offer for Zidlicky. Yes, not great defensively, but think he'd have helped our PP.

i think it was more of like you said a change of scenery type thing, opposed to being a terrible locker room guy. another wild fan posted that he was disgruntled with the state of the team.

I think the Bruins are pretty united and one Mr.Zanon isn't going to change that. Thornton,Lucic and Company would set him straight in hurry if that was the case.

The Bruins went after Zanon because Chiarelli has kept track of him
since Ottawa had drafted him. Chiarelli pretty much knew what he
was getting.

I'm sure Chia had to know something about it before adding Zanon. He obviously didn't think it was a big issue. I think Zidlicky coming right out with this statement says something too. I wonder what people/teamates think of him. Not much, id guess.

Who knows? Chia prob thought, if anything, The Wild lockeroom as a whole was a problem. But ours is fine, and Zanon would adjust properly.

I wish Zanon the best. There's clearly no more room here with Dougie coming in.

As for Zidlicky, he came off as an unspectacular and often invisible offensive Dman with typical offensive Dman defensive skills. Ill pass. If we're going to ship off a Ference to bring in a PMD/PP QB we need to aim higher.

Kinda funny this comes up now. Where was this in Feb? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

What is really ironic about this is apparently his teammates in Minnesota disliked him because he insisted on always visiting the White House when they played in DC.

Clearly they picked up Zanon so that Thomas had a friend.

Locker room cancers stick together

While its nice gossip that's all it really is. One guy can be a total "cancer" in one room but then a great "leader" in another.

Is that why he kept scoring on Thomas?

He was never going to get anything more than $2 mil from the B's.
He was ok for us but I don't think he'll be back.

I'd rather keep Mottau as #7. Cheaper and fundamentally sound.

Mentioned this in another thread: don't know what he's like in the room, but he spent an aweful lot of time either on his knees in front of Thomas or being outplayed. Disappointed, because I was looking forward to a solid addition. No expert but they should let him go.

I think Mottau is the ideal #7 for this team right now. He looked pretty good in the playoffs. It's a pretty safe bet that he wants to stay here too. I liked little Z well enough but he should be allowed to walk... and I don't even think he can command the $2m he made this year. Just a victim of numbers at this point.

I think we all were.

He seemed to have found some chemistry with McQuaid but when Quaider went down it was the end of him.

He'll get picked up by someone who's looking to reach the floor and in need of a "vet".

The locker room stuff is all subjective. Especially when it comes from members of the media who have known agendas as what it appears to have been the case with this Zidlicky story.

What I don't understand is why Little Z got lumped into it. Keep it about the only relevant person right now.

Mottau will take the league minimum to stay that is if the B's want him.

Hilarious.

Although I'd edit it to note that he usually just assisted on Corvo's goals on Thomas.

I feel bad for Corvo because I was rooting for him as well. It didn't work out, to understate matters considerably. Regardless of what gets rewarded these days when the Norris is handed out, I'll take a responsible, unspectacular D over a pourous PMD any day.

I'll take a responsible and spectacular PMD named Suter

Think I remember reading something at the time of the trade about him not being happy with being a healthy scratch for the first time in his career.

Personally i think he was pretty good during the year and not as bad as everyone thinks in the playoffs. He had a lot of bad luck in the playoffs mixed in with some bad play. Mottau and him are in different leagues. however there in differnt pay scales as well. I say zannon comes down to dollars and cents. Mottau comes down to if hes happy being an extra which i think hed be ok with. mottau will never be higher than a 7 or 8 but fills that roll fine. With dougie probably coming im guessing if nothing else changes and adams health is fine zannon although i really like him is too much money for a 7. The bruin defenseman who really dipped below his previous couple seasons this year and was terrible in the playoffs was ference. Ya i know i see the offensive out -put in playoffs but he was simply terrible in his own end. watchin him and boychuk was night and day one was awesome and one was brutal.

Funny, Zanon was a pleasant surprise during the regular season and a disappointment in the playoffs while Mottau was just the opposite- a disappointment during the regular season and a pleasant surprise during the playoffs. Not sure which of the two should stick.
