Yeah, team's got a total cap hit of about 68 million. My goal is to go 98-0 in a season, hasn't happened yet though. The closest I've come is 89 wins.

I have a lot of facts about players in my head. So if I see a skilled 6'2" Russian RW/LW who shoots right, and doesn't seem to weigh a ton, that's Semin and not Kovalchuk. You can work that way, if you have the ability to remember a lot of facts like that. Make sure you have a lot of 1st rounders for the game's fourth draft as well.

No, it's the one with all the North Americans where you can get Hulls and Modanos in the 5th round if you filter for players with "15" wrist shots etc.

I take it you did a fantasy draft. Strange both teams got their goalies, if you did.

That's a pretty bad team for a 16-1 win.

If it is from fantasy draft, you retain RFAs don't you? Or maybe he used the UFA tool but left it so everyone keeps their RFAs.

I haven't played this game in over a month. I tried opening it a few days ago but I felt like I forgot where I was going with my team. I'm going to wait until I really get that urge to play again and not force myself to get back into it. Been playing NHL04 modded a bunch the last few days.

Well, I'm going to be in some cap hell.

I'm in my 3rd season as the Capitals, and I'm going to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time. (Ironically against the Colorado Avalanche, but we'll get to why in a second)

At the trade deadline, I was 9th in the east, and my team couldn't seem to win 2 or 3 games in a row... I knew I had to make a drastic change.

So...

I traded for Shea Weber and Ryan Suter. Their value wasn't high since Nashville was in dead last.

I don't remember the exact trades for each (they were separate) but i know i gave up Orlov (everytime I scouted him he was projected to be a top 4 dman, but he's been riding the bench for 2 seasons) Regehr, 2 2nd's, Matheson (2nd best prospect) and another top 5 prospect of mine.

So now I have a stacked team, that lost like... 3 games since the trade deadline, and i've been beating teams by 5+ goals in the playoffs. Here's some pictures.

The only other trade I made this season was Alzner + 5th for Hjalmarsson. Doan was FA Signing. Ladd and O'Reilly were trades from previous seasons. Grigorenko was 1st OVR in the first draft, i got him with the Avs pick from the Varlamov trade. He's been a core player, netting 60 points on the 3rd line... Calder Trophy probably.
OH, and Colborne and Miller were both hopeful tradings. Colborne was rotting in the ECHL for Toronto, and Miller was offered to me. Both of them have done very well in the AHL, and Colborne has been serviceable on the 4th line since Johansson went down for like 5 months near the end of the season.
Also as you can tell from my prospect list, i have a lot of College Prospects

These pictures are just to show you some info about my soon to be first cup champions. I'm pretty sure i'm 5-15mil over the cap, when I checked after the 2 trades. The only roster players going to FA are Hjalmarsson, Tyutin, and Pahlsson. Weber's contract is like 9mil+

(Holtby has played more games since Neuvirth was injured for 3-4 months near the middle of the season)

Ladd on the top line... wat?!

A tip for you, Carlzner, if you haven't heard this before. If you sign guys right after you draft them (even if you send them back to junior) you can have their entry level contracts run out earlier and potentially sign them to long term contracts (the max length) for around $2.5 mil per season.

Also, I know this works for the original database (and my unfaked database) that I could keep getting Ovechkin to sign for the same contract year after year ($7 mil/per for three years). He seems to be very loyal. Never tried it with the 2012 updated rosters.

This is on the latest 2011/2012 rosters from EHMtheblueline. Ladd on my top line spreads out the scoring. As you can see he did pretty well with 73 points.

Ah, thanks for the tip. I did that with Grigorenko and Reinhart, their contracts will both run out after next season... Hope they don't ask for too much.

Won the cup in game 7! 5-1 win
Ovi won the Conn Smythe (40 points) and Grigorenko won the Calder.

I'm at 69mil now though, and the cap is at 63... even with Hjalmarsson, Tyutin, and Pahlsson gone... I DID sign Girardi to a 3 year, 1mil per deal which was a steal, since i needed a 3rd pairing veteran to pair with Reinhart.

I'm signing Versteeg to a cheap-ish deal, and putting Laich and Ladd OTB to see if i can pawn them off... both of their contracts are 4mil+
Eakin is already better than Laich so he can easily step into the 3C hole that Laich will leave... hopefully Versteeg can take Ladd's place.

FA was crazy though... Lundqvist, Malkin, a few other superstars that I can't recall... too bad I couldn't sign any of them

Traded up in the draft to get this sick Swedish Center at 20th Overall... really good attributes and is projected to be like Giroux!

Awesome news for those who have been patiently waiting the past 2 years for Nino's 1974 database - It will be available very shortly.

Should be awesome, as he's put a ridiculous amount of work into the project.

First trade I made:

Montreal acquires defenseman Brad Park from the New York Rangers for defenseman John Van Boxmeer and the rights to c/lw prospect Paul Woods (3rd rounder).

Nice.

I'm trying to acquire Anders Hedberg from Winnipeg but they aren't interested in moving him.

Habs roster to begin the 1974-75 NHL season:

Steve Shutt - Jacques Lemaire - Guy Lafleur
Murray Wilson - Pete Mahovlich - Yvan Cournoyer
Bob Gainey - Henri Richard - Mario Tremblay
Yvon Lambert - Glen Sather - Jimmy Roberts
*switched Sather to Center.

Brad Park - Larry Robinson
Serge Savard - Guy Lapointe
Pierre Bouchard - Rick Chartraw

Ken Dryden
Michel Larocque

Top prospects:

Doug Risebrough
Brian Engblom
Pierre Mondou
Glenn Goldup
Dave Lumley
