Ok, so I'll revise my statement and say there's a 99.999% chance it's not Bobby Holik.

Yeah. In the CHL players "on loan" (AKA drafted by a team and sent back to juniors) don't have much trade value. I only gave up meh players/prospects and low round picks for guys like Pietrangelo (won defenseman of the year) De Haan, Hodgson, and Hackett (my goalie)

Landeskog cost me a fortune though... since he was only 16 and a very good player.

Modano shoots left. Holik is a US/Czech citizen.

Yeah, the game never did quite handle the trade value of "loaned players" quite right. If someone wants to take advantage of that, they certainly can. In previous incarnations of the game, goalies like Carey Price and Tuukka Rask would get invited to training camps and would be acquireable for very little...a veritable bonanza for those that like to build "super teams", a temptuous programming oversight to those that don't...

I've sort of done that. I mean, normally a team wouldn't even trade away a player like that. I never really cheated the game by offering a really crappy return, I've traded away my best prospects and a bunch of picks and money for junior stars, though. Which is kinda realistic.

Would somebody mind helping me out with training? How many coaches should I have per training area? How many categories should I have on intensive? What kind of schedules do you guys run and do you change it up in the off-season? Thanks for any help in advance.

Everyone has their own practice regimens, and frankly, I'm not sure I do it all that well - so I won't comment.

But regarding the checkbox-laden area in the practice screen, I just kind of match it up to the coaches strengths.

Let's start with an easy one. One of your assistants should be a goalie coach, that is, one with a strong knack for coaching goalies. In most cases, I uncheck all of his boxes and leave him with the goalies.

For conditioning/skating, I match that up with a coach who is "conditioning-based"
For tactics, I match that up with a coach that is "technique-based" and has high tactical knowledge
Offensive with coaching forwards and coaching style (attacking, etc.)
Defensive with coaching defense and coaching style (defensive, etc.)

I forget if there's anything else, but that should give you a rough idea of how I do it. If two coaches or even three are "green" in an area, I don't mind them all talking. Though, the way I run my teams, I usually have all of my coaches in relative agreement with how to play "patient" "defensive", etc. because I generally play a defensive-minded game because the game favors offense and it's too easy that way.

Had interesting ending to 2011 playoffs (new rosters - original start date). I (nyr) was up 3-0 on buffalo in the conference finals, then lost the next four games. Buf then went up 3-0 on LA and lost next four.

When it comes to the offensive/defensive I usually pick coaches that are all the same style like attacking, direct, defensive, etc. trying to get unity and one type of hockey being played so I personally don't think the coaching style has a lot to do with it. Although it is find hard to find offensive goalie coaches so sometimes my goalie coach is only good, not great, but better at other things as well.

Is there anyway to start in any year, like 2001 for example? Holding that roster. I wouldn't mind starting up with Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Bourque etc.

Can someone give me some tips on Rebuilding? I have a bunch of older players with decent-good value, but nobody wants them because of "financial reasons"

Usually i try to trade them for picks/prospects.

Try with "offer to all" and then It will show up what other teams can/will give you in return for your player(s).

Hope I helped you little bit

I consider this cheating. Fedor Emeliamenko has 20s for all physical/technical stats. I did that as an experiment to see how many points I can end up getting him. He may actually be able to rival Gretzky, we'll see. In his youngest seasons he always started with insane point totals like that but then would slow down in the second half. Now he does it consistently.

In short, I used the pre-game editor to "make" him. Ovechkin is stock Ovechkin and the other guy is a regen, who happened to turn out very well.
