I didn't see it on video, but apparently it was due to a "very poor" play on the Whalers' goal toward the end of the second. Spott claimed he had to send him a strong message.

Seems a bit harsh to me considering Evan was logging big minutes on a horribly depleted team. So the error must have been something they addressed repeatedly.

Don't worry though. No attitude issues.

As for Puempel, I don't think the shoulder concerns were the real reason. TC had no problem adding him as a camp invite and re-evaluating at the time if he couldn't go. I just think there wasn't much chance of him earning a top-6 role due to his mediocre skating, board work and all-around game. And thus, why invite him? He's not a bottom-6 guy.

Ok thanks. You're right, does seem harsh for a bad play, I was afraid it was for beaking off the coach or something.

Teddy bear toss tonight -- here's hoping we see 10,000 bears hit the ice!

Here's hoping somebody can score...

I have been one of the people here critical on the secondary scoring issue we have. But for the last few games I have seen some guys starting to come around. Faksa's game looks like he is starting to dust of the cobwebs. Bailey looks like he is starting to adjust to the play of the OHL. With the emergence of their games with a couple of others, I am less worried about getting goose egged on the scoreboard with Puempel out.

With that said, we still need a trade to happen to get more scoring to contend.

Add Marcantuoni to the list of players emerging finally. He has scored 6 points in his previous 5 games. Bailey as well has been producing nicely, not much of a play maker, but most of his goals are a result of his hard work and grinding on ice demeanor.

How long will Palazzese play nice and take back up minutes when we all know that he is a #1 goalie on most teams?

Won't have to worry about Frankie "playing nice"....with Gibson having a hip flexor and world juniors, the starting gig is his for the next month. It wont have to get addressed until January.

Yes, he is one that has stepped it up. Just wish his hands would catch up to his feet on a consistant basis, then he would be scary.

Disappointing loss. To be up 2-1 until the final minute in the third and to ultimately lose later in the shootout.

Yuck.

Hopefully Bailey is OK.

Close! We got over 8000 though, can't remember the exact number.

EDIT: 8870 according to the game summary on the OHL site.

I didn't see anything. All I know is that Kitchener was lucky to get to OT, Palazzese definitely earned first star tonight. Sparks was good too.

Kitchener spent too much time in their own end.

It's something with his shoulder or arm IIRC.

Try being a Pens fan back in 2011 when Crosby, Malkin, and Staal and others were all out injured.

God that was painful.

I was actually thinking of that when I saw all the injuries to the Rangers. That year was horrible for the pens.

Sad thing is I can't remember anyone being really healthy from that year.

Rangers had a ton of injuries last year -- it was beyond ridiculous. This year is looking worse, with less depth.

I think Spott needs to seriously consider being a seller at the deadline. The return on Murphy/Gibson/Reider (although he might be tougher to move) could set the team up nicely for a year or two from now, if he plays his cards right.

One of the enjoyable seasons was the 08-09 season the Rangers missed the playoffs but had young players such as Skinner, Aleardi and Prince to get us excited for the future. Giving the fans hope for the future is never wrong.
Last thing I want is another lacklustre playoffs in which the Rangers win a series or two but the lack of depth beats them.

All those injuries and Schmaltz not in the line-up? What gives?

He played last night, and I suspect he'll see a lot of ice time in the next few weeks.

Agreed -- that 08/09 team was exciting and worked their behinds off every single game. They were fun to watch, and never gave up. This team tries hard and there are a few players who work hard every shift, but there are far more passengers this year.

Watching the game last night made me miss Deboer teams a lot. Guelph was physical (although how they weren't in the box a lot is beyond me), with an aggressive forecheck (remember when Kitchener had that?) and a will to win (ditto). The Rangers were outplayed most of the night, so getting a point was actually pretty good.

Who in the HELL decided it was a good idea to double shift Czinder? Again last night, he had one good shift. ONE.

I'm not sure he had a choice but to double-shift Czinder. With Puempel and Rieder out, Llewellyn also missing and Ming and Bailey going down, that's 5 wingers ahead of him on the depth chart who weren't available.

It is getting ugly fast.

He got hit behind the storm net in the Third. Looked at first like he got bonked on the head a little, but was favouring his right arm/shoulder while skating back to the bench.

He did not immediately leave the bench, but did not return.

Very ugly! Lucky Palazzese is playing so well.
