I constantly defend both the team and the goalie on the main boards. That's because I post here heat of the moment and his soft goals piss me off. I post on the main boards not heat of the moment so I'm more rational.
We both agreed that Lundqvist was pretty average tonight but it's all forgotten. Let's focus on the positives now.
When Staal scored the game winner, one of the first things I thought of was how so many Rangers fans were giving up on him around January/February when he just returned from his concussion. An alarming amount of posters thought he was an expendable piece. Tonight's game showed exactly why he isn't... not just because of the game winner in OT, but because of the game-saving play he made on the 3-on-1 on the 3rd. Staal has been and will continue to be the backbone of this defense.
Don't get ahead of yourselves people, if Richards was one step further back or the Caps don't take a penalty we're all drowning our sorrows right now. We're still going to lose the next game and have a tough game 7 ahead of us.

Staal is going to be a Ranger for a long, long time.
He played outstanding save for blundering the puck on the point(something he has had a problem with his whole career)that one shift.
I swear if he could develop just a little bit more ability to corral the puck or some lateral skating he could be a solid point shooter.
How the hell did he snake that through? Amazing skill. Clutch skill.
I honestly was sitting back with my hands on my head, swearing and *****ing and watching them chip at it, I didn't even know it was in until they raised their arms. After watching it, it was like a gift from the hockey Gods themselves man. Rangers need to stop giving me heart attacks. Epic Epic Epic game.
Not luck...last minute hard work and perseverance.
We had a dominant first period where we were sustaining our forecheck.
We then took the foot off the gas and almost lost the game if it wasn't for some last second heroics.
Heroics is a great word, but used negatively...this is how this team has played all year...despite they haven't scored a goal this late in a playoff game in twenty years.
This was not a well played game by the Rangers. They need to be better, take this as a HUGE opportunity for game 6.
I feel like this is most people's anthem on this board...everyone looks for the negative. Always with the negative. There were so many positives with this team tonite. Pocket Rockets (AA) was terrible and gave up several turnovers as well as several terrible moments in their zone against their boards but several positives...who would've thought that Stralman would be our next best defenseman after McD.
Caps are NOT out of this series by any stretch. The Rangers need to have a more decisive game(like game 1).
Simple answer: Of course...this is the playoffs
Also the "throw everything at the net" strategy is not working against Holtby. They need some crisper plays.
This is how the first and last goal was scored. Crisper plays is something they've tried all year, especially on the PP...they've been TERRIBLE when trying to be perfect and pretty. I love scoring goals off rebounds, especially from under the blue line...thats how all three goals were scored...Stralzy from a terrible angle...Richards banging in the junk in front of the net and Staalzy (haha Stralzy & Staalzy) from the point with plenty of oomph.
