I think what Kings17 meant to say was Quick hasn't had to steal a game yet this playoffs. He's faced a few tough periods but not entire games. He can credit the team in front of him for that.

I think it is a combination of factors, talent, luck, but mostly a goalie on fire that gets you there. Enjoy it while it lasts, Coyotes too, because it has not, for anyone the last few years....
wow. there is so much wrong with this post that it would take me a page to respond. Let's see if I can do this abridged version. The state of the franchise 6 years ago was horrid. there is no arguing that. To come out of the Dave Taylor years and to radify the entire organization from the ground up doesn't happen overnight and he himself put the season ticket holders on notice that it was a 5 year plan. He changed everything from the front office to the back office to management and then he started working on the team itself. He did a lot of things right. brought in coaches and veterans that were good to have around the young kids. Looking back it was done in phases. Quite an interesting history if you've been actually following it since the begining.

Then again, once again, I am talking to someone who thinks it's all about Quick and luck and other teams injuries and that the team, and managment really deserve minimal credit. If you can't look at the team and organization on paper and see the point of my post I really don't know what to tell you.

I'm quite certain that you are right, though, and that this team with Brown, Kopitar, doughty, Richards, Carter, Williams, Mitchell, etc... locked up long term and pretty much the rest of the team (including Quick) locked at least through the end of next year, are just a flash in the pan and won't make the playoffs next year, well without copius amounts of luck at least.

Everyone in LA knew Murray wasn't going to take the Kings deep into the playoffs. He was there to play an important role in developing the youngsters.

I just wonder if this years playoff push will make Los Angeles a more desireable destination for that big name free agent that, while we may not covet the way we once did, might be the right addition at some point.

Chara, Gomez, Drury, Kovalchuk, Richards, etc......

Of course it is a 5 year plan, more time for things to work out, it took 6 years to get here. Lombardi deserves some credit for that. I have not been following them since right now, since there has been nothing to follow. Not all about Quick, it is mostly though. They are not a flash in the pan but the Kings are not a dynasty in the making either, just like Chicago, Boston, and Vancouver.

One could argue they under achieved until a few months ago with all that talent. Try doing it with no owner, mirrors, smoke screens and a wiji board like Maloney and Tip....

Just like how there were no excuses made in the Kings only loss in the playoffs this season?

Also, if the Coyotes win tonight, I don't want to hear any excuses.

Why are you so defensive?

And there were no excuses made when the Canucks won. They deserved that game.

Being defensive comes natural for any fan of any team.

Nah, if the Kings lose it will be because Bettman wants Phoenix in the finals, he wants a Stanley Cup championship ring.

The Kings are rolling. However I would love to see them Sweep the Coyotes. Then lose in a game 7 ... effectively going 15-5. How crazy would that be to watch as a 3rd party fan!? Realistically though I hope the Kings take this tournament this year.

Especially when they brought in Sutter I figured he'd clean house or at least get rid of Kompon, but nope.
Actually, Sutter brought in Bernie Nichols to help out with then PP and the offence. They did get a blip for a while with the PP, but I just think that they have good defensive teams really bearing own on the PP to laminate chances. The Kings are getting decent movement on the PP now, but the defensive schemes have really cluttered up the front of the net so it's hard to get shots through or get deflections in front of the net.

When you watch other teams PK's you really aren't seeing any seams opening up for cross-ice passes even with the movement in the Kings PP.

Oh, I see. I was totally wrong that 7.8% is unacceptable. As a matter of fact I guess it's to be expected! Thanks for clearing that up!!!!

The contributions this season by Voynov, King, and Nolan (and even Martinez & Lewis) are a testament to the patience and resources that DL has put into the development system. Not only have they been able to step in and play, their pricetags are low enough to allow taking on big contracts like Richards and Carter, as well as providing enough depth to be able to move JJ. That all takes time.

The thing is that even with the big contracts he took on, DL still has a very workable cap number, meaning that he can easily return this whole group next season. That wasn't possible in Chicago, Boston, or Vancouver. That makes the future VERY bright.
