not 100% all it does is it keeps him from choosing his destination as a UFA this July 1st. If he wants to play in the best league in the world next year, we will get some sort od asset out of the deal.
Should mention that Shane O'Brien is a UFA this year. Not certain on how his negotiations are going but I'd defiantly love to have him back. If Suter does indeed leave he'll chew up some important minutes while protecting the net.

The Cube will not be back. Looking for a larger d-man to compliment Ellis and they are giving Ellis the job it looks like full time. If Gill is in the plans I can see him paired with Ellis. If Suter is back then we have our six. Suter/Weber, Klein/Josi and Gill/Ellis. I could live with that. If Suter is gone, we need a guy to pair with Klein as Josi moves up to play with Weber.
WARNING:cryptic Eklund rumor, continue reading at your own risk.
this turned out to be a rumor that one eastern team was trying to trade conditional picks for both suter and praise's rights.... presumably this is pittsburgh...
of course that flys in the face of what we supposedly heard about Suter not looking east at all..

When Eklund comes out with a "cryptic rumor" it almost always reads like a "hey guys, remember I have a podcast this evening!" plug. A bunch of ********, IMO. Besides, I'm always wary of someone who doesn't even bother to proof read their crap before sending it out for the world to read. And who the hell gives a "journalist" information as "off-the-record", but puts a time limit on that? "Hey, this is off-the-record, but only for a few hours. OK?" Yeah, thanks for nothing once again, Eklund. Might want to hit the batting cages this offseason to get that hitting percentage up a little. <1% isn't going to get you into the big leagues.
Oh how I wish we could lengthen the list of unacceptable sources on HF Boards...
Paul McCann just tweeted that he is hearing that Gill and Gaustad are close to deals, and to stay tuned.
Hope he's right. I think Gill was good last year on a bum leg and would be great with all our youngsters, and Gaustad brings alot to a team that prides itself on defense and smart play.
Cooper says Ekholm will play in NA next season. Awesome to hear. In two to three years, Preds fans may be saying "Suter who?"
Ekholm didn't have a good time of it at the start of last season but I have really high hopes for the kid. He has the potential to be a solid NHL starter in the future. Hopefully Josi, Ellis, Blum and Ekholm can all be great starters for us in a few years.

I would absolutely love both of them back at the right price, or even a slight overpayment. Not like we're spending to the cap anyways.

I think Ekholm is a solid bet for our team because he is a big, two-way defenseman. Josi, Ellis, and Blum are all offensive D, so they get a bit redundant, but Ekholm, while I think less talented, is decidedly different.
This is also why I think one of Ellis, Josi, or Blum gets dealt.

I think Josi is being moulded into a very decent two-way defenseman. Ellis is no slouch in his own zone. Blum is the worst in his own zone and the most likely to get dealt, I would personally like to keep all of them though because I'm greedy.

Looking at our D situation, assuming Gill re-signs (Paul said it's close):
Guarenteed spots: Weber, Josi, Klein, Gill. Suter if he stays.
Competing for a spot: Ellis, Blum, Ekholm, Jarvinen?
So, if Suter leaves, one of Ellis, Blum, or Ekholm will either be #7 or head down to the AHL. If Suter stays, only one of those three can make it. And this is if we don't sign any UFA dmen!
