I think let's face it the Als have had success but they've always done things the same way, building their own team culture and I don't see them changing soon. Lalonde must have realised this that things were not easy to change.

According to this article, he wanted to be involved in Football decisions and Popp and Trestman didn't appreciate... Wonder if he had a say on hockey decisions back then

We did hear that it was a party in the office when they knew Lalonde was leaving the Habs. Can't believe a guy would be so full of himself to not see people hating him that much. You have to hope that the Habs won't take him back somehow.
