Thank God, we need a better bottom 9. I'm happy that Bergevin knows it and puts early emphasis to it.

Guy was a class act, worked hard to make the NHL and was an effective scorer for a plug. Far better hockey player than some of the goons proposed. Was never an everyday NHLer.

Good luck to Darche in whatever is next.

Great character guy but we need a little more punch in our bottom 6. Maybe a team in Finland or another team in nhl/ahl might show some interest in him.

Two-way, player coach with the Dogs. Good recall if the rash of injuries comes back.

Me wishful thinking

The hatred for Darche was too much. If this is indeed the end he was a true class act loved him on the Habs.

Not sure how any of that spells "the end" of Darche. Moen is also in the same situation...sort of.

If the Habs don't re-sign him I'm sure he'll find a spot on somebody's 4th line. Coaches always have room for a guy that busts his butt, is reliable defensively and can kill penalities.

Edit. I find it moronic how somebody can be a Habs fan and be happy taht this guy is gone. Yes maybe we can replace him with a better player(we don't know at this point) but just to blindly think that a guy that bleeds bleu blanc et rouge has to go is ridiculous.

Je viens de parler à Mathieu Darche. Il croit encore en ses chances de s'entendre avec le Canadien. D'autres discussions cette semaine

Darche still believe things can work up with the habs

If the team wants to be competitve then... well, they can't if they kept Darche. Good guy, I suppose, but he won't help the team succeed.

Man this is a confusing thread.

Darche is a fantastic 13th forward in the NHL. Probably works like hell in practice, and doesn't look out of place at all when put in the line up.

It's funny how many people want Staubitz brought back but express such hatred for Darche. Does Staubitz play on the penalty kill? No. He goes out there for 7 minutes a night and maybe gets in a fight, or maybe doesn't.

Darche on the other hand can kill penalties, is a pretty capable player who doesn't make the players around him essentially be playing 4 on 5 and he seems like a great teammate.

I hope Darche works something out with the organization, but if not I have absolutely no doubt he can find a spot in the NHL.

Pretty pathetic, the people celebrating this guy (likely) not being back next year. Some people need to seriously look at themselves in the mirror and wonder at what point being a "fan" of the team turned into them celebrating because a minimum salary guy who worked his ass off to get to the NHL and actually turned into a decent 4th liner, is not going to be back with the team.

How so ? If you shop Darche to 29 NHL teams who takes him?Is there not any better player in NHL to help Montreal?
It was a nice STORY that should have lasted a few weeks......some how it lasted way too long .

Darche is a GREAT guy , first class, but never in anyone life time should he been playing top lines or on power play for Montreal Canadiens EVER.

A classic example of a player been misused.

Darchie was class-act, but now it's time to move on. Guy's 35 (turning 36 this fall), I'm sure there are better options out there.

WTF is the problem with Darche??? get a grip please

He was signed as a vet 13th forward, he was a guy who was supposed to be in the pressbox most of time but able to be inserted into lineup when needed and give 100% on short 4th line minutes. He is/was a good spirited vet who was VERY HAPPY to do that, and wasn't gonna whine about a limited role. He was undrafted local guy, playing through CIS hockey, grateful for chance to be in the CH club and picking up a NHL paycheque.

It's not Darche's fault he was put in lineup more than that, due to injuries and other players failing. It's not his fault either that he actually had really good hand-eye coordination for a 13th forward and was put on the PP sometimes by desperate coaches as an option to deflect pucks around net.

Teams need vet guys like this around as 13th forward, who can be a good presence around team when not in lineup, and can be inserted when needed to play effective but limited minutes. Young guys are not good for this spot because they are still learning to play NHL hockey and not getting enough icetime to develop.
